1. honestly? I really think it's because the Democrats do-
it's that childish, petty and small minded.

They hide behind the concepts of $ and "freedom"- but I believe the truth is because they need to be the polar opposite of us.

Even when it kills them- literally.

9. Here's the real reason why...
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 07:12 PM by Anti-Republician
These big insurance companies are contributing money to their campaigns, and they both are doing personal favors for each other. That's the whole nut in the shell. That's another reason why some of these Democrats aren't voting for Healthcare reform. It's all about the MIGHTY DOLLAR!!

I keep saying Republicians= GREEDINESS and SELFISHNESS.

15. that may be true of some of those who hold power- but for the average
"joe" the person who gets sucked into the political machinery with little genuine personal motivation, I really believe they are choosing to be willfully ignorant. They are accepting the "cause" because they are too lazy to think for themselves, and too afraid to take a stand that goes against their familiar dogma/doctrine.

Lock-step mentality. How many times have we heard that the RW is effective because they don't ever break ranks?- that may win them some battles, but what have they .. as individuals... as people, not as corporate pawns really won??? in the end, they may find they've sold their souls- simply to be on the "winning side"-

3. Because it's what the majority of
Democratic voters want and they can't have that. Now, if they were smart, maneuvers would be going on to try to steal some of the blue dog/conservadems thunder, thus stealing votes - but as with everything republican in the last 20 years, they are extremely short sighted.

5. Greed
Republicans are greedy selfish pigs who are only looking out for themselves.

Secondly:
They don't give a shit about the rest of the population. That is what is so fucking amazing about those who support republicans. So many people who are middle class and even poor who support the republicans and everything they do blindly and vote against their own best interest.

14. That is exactly it! I know a Libertarian who thinks everything from..
Family leave to Medicaid is an abomination because her tax dollars are paying for it and she doesn't need it. People with children or the seriously ill poor have made bad choices and should have to pay for it.

She is moving to Texas. She bought a house that was foreclosed on. Why do I feel like someone is going to learn her lesson?

10. First, they're terrified of change
It doesn't matter how vital that change is to the country or even to their own well being, if it is going to cause them to change the way they think about things, they're against it.

Second, they're people who are symbolic thinkers, follow the leader thinkers, and lightswitch thinkers. They're incapable of weighing alternatives, seeing things in shades of grey, or thinking anything through based on its merits and likely flaws. They have utter trust in their leaders to tell them the truth and do all their thinking for them.

Third, they've been given permission to hate Democrats, liberals, feminists, blacks, Hispanics, gays, and everybody else who doesn't fit into a 1955 family sitcom. They obligingly do hate all these people, especially the Democrats who seem to represent them, and by extension anything the Democrats try to do for the country.

This type of people will always be with us, which is why several of the founding fathers expressed doubt the new nation would last long.

However, the rest of us do outnumber them. Our job is to keep as many of us involved as possible to keep them out of power.

11. I can tell you why. It is the old divide and conquer strategy.
The republicans that you are talking about, they are afraid that after working their ass off for years and years to make a home and a good life for their family, that the new health care plan will put worthless young crack-heads ahead of the old republicans, on the waiting list for medical procedures.
And if not that, then the crack-heads will be given medical procedures any dam time they feel like it, and the old republicans will have to pay for it out of their hard earned cash.

Now that is the deal. They are not mean, they feel everybody should carry their own share of the load. And the republican politician shit-stirrers are making sure that joe average republican DOES NOT find out that we can care for everybody, and it won't bankrupt average Americans.

They have been misled. I have a lot of republican friends. They have been misled.

13. Because they don't want to have to wait in line to go to the doctor.
They think that insuring the "less deserving lazy people who don't work" will mean they will have to wait longer to see a doctor and will have to pay more taxes.

They have lived in this fantasy world for so long that all Democrats are poor and all the poor are that way because they are lazy, won't work and deserve it that they have come to believe it. This is the only way they can make themselves feel better about themselves. Republican strategists have worked very hard since Reagan to convince them at least they aren't as bad as "those people". That's how they get them to accept the ongoing ass kicking they get from Republican policies.

16. Someone else may get some benefit that they don't get.
That is the perception that feeds the anger of the rank and file. Resentment is as powerful a force as fear when it comes to motivating them. Of course the people behind the scenes don't want it because right now they control a perfectly legal trillion dollar racket.
