World Bank to reach a decision on what to do about Wolfowitz
The World Bank's board said it would decide quickly on what action to take with president Paul Wolfowitz, who promoted his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, shortly after he joined the bank in 2005.

In a statement, the board said it found that Wolfowitz signed off on Riza's promotion and salary increase without a review by an ethics committee nor the board's chairman.

"The executive directors will move expeditiously to reach a conclusion on possible actions to take," the board said.

"In their consideration of the matter the executive directors will focus on all relevant governance implications for the bank," it added.

1. "Wolfowitz signed off on Riza's promotion
without a review by an ethics committee
nor the board's chairman."

I don't see what other action they can take except
to fire him, if they can?

5. Wolfowitz did more than sign off on Riza's promotion
According to yesterday's Financial Times, he "laid out terms" for her pay package. The staffers are up in arms, never having been happy with him in the first place. The Washington Post wrote that he'd attempted "to address about 200 staffers gathered in the bank's central atrium but left after some began hissing, booing, and chanting 'Resign ... Resign.'"

I'll try to post the link. Not sure I've got it right.

Hmm. Looks like it didn't get it right! It was in Friday, April 13, 2007 edition; Page A01
