Was I wrong about us ---no cohesion, no loyalty, no long term perseverance-- ?!1
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 07:13 PM by UTUSN
I e-mailed something about the Public Option to the local radio talkshow wingnut, so this exchange happened:

Re, your (the local wingnut radio ex-talkshow host) :

**************QUOTE***********

"You cannot be for the Public Option?!! It'll destroy private health insurance by running them out of business because the PO can price things below cost until the private insurers quit. I once sued and won against an insurer so I have no love for them. Besides, the PO bill is not designed to start a public insurance company, it is designed to make us into--or start making us into-- a social democracy a la the Europeos."

***********UNQUOTE*************

You always say I don't have to worry about this or that---e.g., PALIN & Jeb---that they are SO over, that Shrub wrecked the BUSH brand so badly Jeb is out. Well, isn't the word out there that the public option is dead? You ought to hear all the wailing at the Dem discussion board. They were RABID for OBAMA in the primaries, HATED Hillary. For two days, the board has been flooded with items like, "If OBAMA sells us out, who do we support in 2012?" and "OLBERMANN went ballistic on OBAMA and hinted at an opponent in the primaries!"

So you wingnuts don't have to worry about the public option, and you don't have to worry about adversaries like us on the Left. We have NO cohesion and NO loyalty and NO long term perseverance.

As for Europeans, there was a thread yesterday from somebody living there who said that Europe and the rest of the world are LAUGHING at our agonized debate over health care, the same as how they laughed at the Puritanical obsession with CLINTON's sex peccadilloes.

2. I think there is cohesion now and there will be more as we get closer to the bill.
We talk about the issues. We argue about the issues. We disagree with each other. And that really is ok because that's what Democracy does for us. As we grapple with each other on all this, we are learning new information and nuances on ideas/policies that we thought we already knew. Those poor RWingers don't get the opportunity to do any of this because the media/Rush/Faux News/Rove etc have decided what they will think and support.

It's messy but we will get it done.

4. We do not trust our politicians..
Why should we?

Honestly, I'll be shocked if the public is not sold out in the ongoing health care brouhaha.

5. sadly I agree
Sure, I do think we need to keep pressure on, after all, that will be the best weapon Obama can use, just as it was the best weapon LBJ and FDR used. However, the antics of many on the left here sadden me. I am not talking about those who criticize, I am talking those who obviously were never for him from the beginning, who want 2012 to be some crowning of their person, be he St. Dennis or Lady Hillary or Dr. Dean.

Of course, these are the same people who forget how much FDR was hated for "compromises", and JFK, and let's not forget, the same LBJ they want him to act like was the same LBJ they hounded out of office, after all, the Chicago riots were cool, and Nixon was not that bad, right?

There are those who define a center as the middle of the road, and some who realize the center is not the middle of the road, but the spoke of the wheel that actually make it possible for any work to get done. Do not get me wrong, the public option must stand, and I will admit, Obama and his Clinton era aides seem to think middle of the road equals balance, which is wrong when the GOP has so obviously bent the scales, But acting like a bunch of children that keep threatening to take our ball and go home to uncle Ralph only makes the GOP gladder, because they know, as much of a mess as they appear to be, we will be less organized, which of course means they do not have to do the work of actually destroying us.
