Why aren't we mocking and making fun of these morans?
Any 'parent' who won't allow their child to hear a speech about the importance of an education needs to be held up for public ridicule at every possible opportunity.

By paying these morans any serious attention, we're only fueling the fire for more idiocy. I believe if they are mocked and ridiculed publicly and people start (literally) laughing in their faces then perhaps this shit will stop.

1. Instead of focusing our attacks on the people, the vehicles of the message,
we are focusing on the issue. Our logic and principles will override their efforts. Let them figure out what happened later on their own iniative.

8. Our logic and principles have us LOSING the health care debate and every other issue
After they win in 2010 and 2012 will you be screeching how only principles and logic are fair?

2. I'm more inclined to try understanding their point of view and offering reasonable counter-arguments
But that's just me.

4. Any progress on the "understanding their POV" front?
I'm serious. So far I don't get it at all.

What's their *strongest* point?

10. They view the speech as a using the bully pulpit to promote his political agenda
Fundamentally "unfair" in their eyes because there isn't an opportunity for the opposition to present an opposing point of view. No provision for "equal time" like we have for the State of the Union address and similar situations.

It's the other edge of the "media right-wing bias" sword you hear so many complaints about on these forums.

If so, how do they know what the content will be?

Question 2: They'll drop the nonsense if we let a GOP spokesman deliver a reply?

16. They're making all kinds of assumptions, just as are some people who are critical of them

I don't know. Has anyone ever suggested it?

12. I often hear people on the other side saying exactly the same thing about Democrats
An attitude that guarantees there will be no mutual understanding.

It's their preferred spelling, we use it in deference to their wishes.

17. Good point . My grandmother's name actually.
I always have mixed feelings re. this.

It has it's own DU pedigree though... separate from granny's.

Granny would have let it slide.

11. There is a distinction between how private citizens can react
and how school administrators can react.

It's not appropriate for school officials to hold students or their parents up for public ridicule - that would be an ethics problem.

and the morans are winning.
