Downtown Pittsburgh is the transit hub for the county wide bus system. If you close down Downtown how does a person who uses public transportation living in the South Hills make it to the North hills to work given that downtown is shut down? East end to the South Hills? Right now you go to downtown and take a bus or LRV to where you want to go. If you can NOT get to downtown how do you get to work or school? Nothing from PAT (Port Authority Transit) on this subject, for there is no where else to transfer. Move the transit transfer point to Oakland? (Solves the problem of the Pitt students who take the bus to School, but almost no one else). No suggestion has even been made let alone issued to the Public.

Updated: Sept. 3, 2009
This is Port Authority of Allegheny County's hub for information about the G-20 summit, especially how it will impact routes. The summit is scheduled for Sept. 24-25 and likely will cause detours through the entire week of Sept. 21-25.
This is the place where riders may learn about both planned and unexpected service changes caused by the G-20 events. The latest route information will be posted here.
We cannot stress enough that most, if not all, Port Authority routes will change during the week of G-20. The routes could change daily and unexpected changes might occur through the week. The best way to track changes on your route is to sign up below for our e-mail notifications.

As of now, Port Authority anticipates providing bus and light rail service to a limited portion of Downtown Pittsburgh. Authority officials continue to discuss options with security officials. Our service levels depend on security and safety measures imposed during the summit.
We hope to have information available soon but it is possible that we might not know specific details until a week or two before the event. It is very clear that transit service will not operate in the area near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and we anticipate running the T to the First Avenue station.
Other ways to monitor route changes include our Twitter site at "PGHtransit" or our Web site at portauthority.org. Both will be updated continuously through the week of G-20.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. And, please take a moment to sign up below for the e-mail alerts.

Bus & Light Rail Detour List
This is where we will post a complete list of all bus and light rail changes that will occur during the week of G-20. The list will be organized by route number.http://www.portauthority.org/PAAC/CustomerInfo/G20/tabid/500/Default.aspxAs you can see, nothing has been decided for the simple reason there is no easy solution except shut down the bus system. Since shutting down the bus system is NOT possible what will happen?
One last comment, when I was in High School in the City of Pittsburgh I was given a bus pass to get to my high school, so was my sisters. One sister had to go downtown and transfer to another bus to get to her high school. How do these students get to school given the restrictions on missing school under "No Child Left Behind" AND that the bus system will be shut down.
The City School's solution was to shut down will Pitt follow?
