If you want to make a CHANGE in the MEDIA.....QUIT PAYING FOR IT.
....the ONLY thing that will STOP the INSANITY and GET THEIR ATTENTION is....QUIT MAKING MONTHLY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEM and STOP ADVERTISING FOR THEM...EVERY TIME YOU SHOW THEM ATTENTION AT ALL...IT'S POURING GASOLINE ON THEIR FIRES. :nopity:

1. The only time I see television news is on YouTube where they get no advertising revenue
I quit watching the news a long time ago but I still keep up on what they are doing because it is important to know what the masses are being sold. If you really want to get their attention though you don't just turn them off, you show up outside their office doors with picket signs and a video camera so you can put your action online and encourage other people to gather outside the doors of any media outlet that lies to us.

A friendly word of advice however, if you want to get your point across better refrain from using all caps and the violin smiley. You make a legitimate point but it does not come across very well and a lot of people will turn you off if they feel you are shouting at them.

6. I'm not disagreeing with you, but to cut off their money you need public action
You can scream the truth all you want I am just saying you should do it in a way that inspires people to take real action, I am not criticizing your message but just making a friendly suggestion that there are more effective ways to get your message across than a couple sentences typed in all caps. Simply turning off the TV helps, but it is not action. You are telling people not to do something rather than to do something to bring about change. We can turn our TVs off, but what do we do after they are turned off? My answer is that we picket the broadcasters and make the public know that we are tired of their propaganda. A few people turning off the TV does little to help unless they do it as part of a public action, if people simply turn off the TV and no one knows why they turned it off then the effect is small. If people turn off the TV and then go out and make the news themselves then the impact is much larger.

9. Protest only helps the opposition think up new and improved ways to screw you......
....much like warfare...the peace only lasts seconds...but the nighmares never cease...to each their on reality though.

11. So can you tell me how the civil rights movement helped the racists?
The civil rights movement used protest as one of their main tactics as did the woman's suffrage movement. Can you please explain to me how the civil rights movement helped the racists or how the woman's suffrage movement helped the people who believe women should not have the right to vote?

Protest works and that is the reason the powerful have tried so hard to convince people like you that it doesn't.

12. Yet....here we are....still bitching and screaming into the void that is our *system*....
....over the exact same arguments that have been debated for eons...one inch in a positive direction....fathoms backward in the negative....the haves will always dominate...always have...always WILL.

14. You didn't answer my question, you say protest helps the opposition.
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 12:31 PM by Bjorn Against
How did the woman's suffrage movement help the opponents to woman's suffrage? I don't hear women upset about not having the right to vote any more because they won that right through protest and have since been able to move on to working for equality in other areas.

The haves will only continue to dominate if we allow them to continue to dominate. There are a lot more of us than there are of them and if the people stand up and demand their rights the powerful can not hold us back. In order for that to happen however we need people to realize that simply writing a message in all caps is not going to change things, if you want to change things you actually have to get out and work for change. By discouraging people to do anything to work for change aside from making all caps posts you are part of the problem, you are not part of the solution. If you want to be part of the solution tell me what you are going to do to be part of the solution, don't think that writing all caps posts is going to bring about change especially when you direct those all caps posts against real activists.

16. You are wrong, but before the women's suffrage movement the majority wasn't even allowed to vote
I know that our voter turnout should be a lot better than it is but that has absolutely nothing to do with my question because I would certainly hope you would know that the voter turnout would be a hell of a lot worse if women were still not allowed to vote.

For the record however despite your name "jus_the_facts" your facts are wrong, the majority of people do vote. Last year the voter turnout was over 60%, it is not a great number but it is a majority.

17. Wallow in your own reality then....because you are wrong....
.....your statistics are drawn from registered voters which doesn't come close to being the majority of the people in this country....the majority votes more for reality shows than it does for the HAVES that run their lives.

18. Show me your numbers, I will show you mine which show voting age population
When you look at all Americans of voting age then the majority turned out to vote in every recent Presidential election except for 1996. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781453.html Before you tell me that that the numbers are less than 60% I will point out that these numbers are of "voting age population", but not all voting age citizens are eligible to vote. When you only look at eligible voters and don't count felons or people who have been deemed mentally incapacitated the numbers rise above 60%, but while different calculations will produce different numbers you will not find any numbers that show anything less than a majority voted in the last Presidential election.

If you dispute these numbers then show me your numbers, but the fact is that you are distracting from the real question because we were never talking about voter registration. You said that protest helped the opposition, I asked you how the woman's suffrage movement helped the opponents to woman's suffrage. You have still not answered the question.

20. You clearly can't answer my question or provide numbers of your own.
I provided facts, you simply made assertions and then refused to back them up. Yet you accuse me of living in a fantasy world, I think anyone who reads this thread will know who won this debate though.

Debate has become moot too...thanks to your TV....be sure to stay TUNED...instead of taking your head out of their quicksand.

This message is brought to you by and approved for your own mental stability...if there is any left after they give you your daily lobotomy.

25. I choose to blindly follow a broken system?
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 03:11 PM by Bjorn Against
You clearly don't know me, but I will put my resume next to yours any day and we will see who has done more to challenge the system. I have been involved in close to one hundred public protests in just the last year alone, to say I blindly follow the system is absurd. It is even more absurd to be told I blindly follow the system by someone who is explicitly telling people that they should not protest the system because it might somehow help the opposition.

Let's not even get into the irony of someone who calls themselves "jus_the_facts" telling me there are no real facts.

8. I switched off the Sunday gasbags in the 80s
but didn't kick the evening news habit until 2004. The amazing part of it is how little I missed it.

You're right about You Tube, it completely bypasses the sponsors, so if there's something we really must see, we can without feeding them.

Or we can just read about it on DU.

2. Is not that easy.
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 11:54 AM by Lost-in-FL
For example. NBC is part of VIACOM which also owns GE. GE Healthcare division is BIG!! GE produces and sells Medical equipment to hospitals and small clinics around the world. So every time you get an xray, you might be indirectly contribuiting to the lies that perhaps NBC is broadcasting. Perhaps that is the reason why the media finds it proper to distortion the Healthcare debate, not for more viewers but to stop congress from doing something about the current healthcare being run like a business.

I watch C-Span, I watch Keith, I watch various documentarys, sometimes I'll even watch PBS when someone other than Bill Moyers is on - I could watch FOX but I don't, I could watch CNN but I don't. I could watch ABC but I don't.
