GLENN BECK marks his next targets to his followers: CASS SUNSTEIN, MARK LLOYD & CAROL BROWNER
Giddy on the victory handed to him by the untimely resignation of Van Jones, Glenn Beck ordered his devoted drones to find as much dirt as necessary on the following three Obama appointees:

- CASS SUNSTEIN
- MARK LLOYD
- CAROL BROWNER

Glenn Beck’s Next Target: Cass Sunstein

As he makes a real impact in pushing conservative fringe attacks on Obama administration officials into the mainstream, Glenn Beck’s Twitter feed has become a must-read. In a message from last night, Beck told his followers to “FIND EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON CASS SUNSTEIN, MARK LLOYD AND CAROL BROWNER.” They are, respectively, the nominee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, the Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer of the FCC, and the Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change. Browner was also administrator of the EPA for all eight years of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

Beck’s ostensible purpose here is to expose the “czars” who’ve been appointed by the president. Sunstein stands out like a sore thumb, as he’s been tied up by holds and filibusters for months, and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) only filed for cloture on his nomination at the start of August.

(...)

The question is, will the spineless Dems run to get these three appointees out of the way?

3. Obama should save Beck the trouble and withdraw them asap.
The Van Jones capitulation must have those awaiting confirmation shaking in their boots.

6. He should submit their names TO Beck first before nominating them.
That should satisfy Beck.

5. I'm surprised how UNPREPARED the Obama admin was to face the wingnut noise machine
Did they not learn anything from the Clinton years?
The last 8 months it felt like the Clinton years on steroids. No conspiracy too crazy to tarnish the president. No act of disrecpect too outrageous to stain the presidency.

Were they really that naive?

11. It's a good question - I wonder about that too
What did they think? That the vitriol was just for The Clintons? It does seem naive.
And maybe part of it is trying to apply Senator experience with the Presidency...big difference.

Did they think that what should be a simple, heartfelt Speech to the Children *wouldn't* turn into another opportunity for the wingnuts to promote racism and hatred? (And yes, I'm for Obama and deplore this idiotic outcry from irrational people and those whose careers depend on setting off irrational people.)

And they (including Axelrod, Gibbs, Sebelius, etc.) need some coaching on their interviews. Enough nuance (I'm tired of that word). Speak simply, clearly and repeatedly (over and over). And ignore the Repubs and nuts. There is nothing to be done there. Those who were elected as Democrats should be following the damn party platform - yes, "public option" is on page 10 of the 2008 Democratic Party Platform - www.democrats.org/a/party/platform.html - these Dems need to get in line (not the Progressive Caucus - but the Blue Cross Dogs, etc.) and support the platform on which we voted them in.

I know. I'm naive now.

12. Bingo: many Dems thought the vitriol was because Bill & Hillary were "controversial"
and "divisive". Remember that?
They really thought that the Clintons were the ones that brought all this hate from the far right. Those of us who lived through that period knew better. This vitriol is an integral part of the new conservative movement, and no matter who leads the Democratic party their reaction will be the same. They will attack, vilify, investigate, accuse, slander and disrespect the leader of the free world as long as is not one of their rank.

It baffles me the Obama team thought they could ride this one out on Barack's personality alone. Massive FAIL! This horrid summer of teabaggers, birthers, deathers, birchers and GlennBeckers has shown again the true face of the Republican party.

Now, will Rahm and his team react? Or will they instead keep reacting in fear to any accusation from Fox News?

Frankly embarrassing.

20. I thought Rahm's competitive juices would've started flowing
by now. I know he has his eye on the money (funding) for future elections, but it's like Howard Dean said, "If you don't use the majority, you'll lose the majority."

14. Yes, they were that naive.
I don't think they understand how the Republican Party operates. They must not have studied the various 'think tanks' and wacko groups that work for the Republican Party. The most likely have not read Brock's 'Rightwing Noise Machine'. They actually did think they could reach across the aisle and move into a 'post partisan' era.

They hired mostly DLCers who were never into fighting the far right machine, more into appeasing them.

Looks like they are being blind-sided when they did not need to be.

My question is why are they more worried about what the far right thinks than they are about what their base thinks?

There is still no organized effort on the left to counter the rightwing noise machine.

Tea-baggers are sought out by the media. People like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are referred to constantly. While Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes (who is excellent at decimating rightwing nutjobs when given a chance, remember her destruction of the 24 year-old pro-war Young Republican and complete annihilation on C-Span of the rightwing female fundi talk-show host eg) are never referred to on TV.

No prominent Republican will criticize their wacko talk-show hosts. But every prominent Democrat will distance themselves from progressive talk show hosts.

Some on the 'left' join their rightwing counterparts by agreeing that the most outspoken people on the left are an 'embarrassment' which makes their work easier. No matter how crazy a rightwinger is, they will be supported by the base. Not so with the left. We are an easy target because of the appearers in our midst.

17. The right-wing machine is RELENTLESS and feeds on MISINFORMATION
rumors, and innuendo. They work their followers to a fever, and drag the media along with their wild antics.

No matter who's the Democratic elected president, they would act like this.

19. So why all the DLC hires?
I agree with your assessment that DLC'ers are more into appeasing than fighting.
(Um, it's, like, not working.)

22. Good question, I don't know
But Obama does seem more comfortable around them. I do recall he was listed on their website for a brief period. I'm sure there's a link somewhere. But it was removed for some reason. Probably because he was running for president and needed the 'left' in order to win.

But yes, they appease the right, they do fight the left though. Lots of 'lectures' from them to the 'far left'. And I don't see anything about Obama that is out sinc with DLC philosophy. And that is really disappointing if true.

And you're right, it's not working!

10. "ISO" = an image file format to be burned to cd or dvd
"Carry your own d---" is a reference to Beck's recent inane rant.

9. Well, Beck has picked his targets effectively
On Sunstein, a quick Wikipedia search shows that he favors animal rights so much that he'd call for a ban on hunting, and would give animals the right to file suit (no word on whether or not they'd have to have human lawyers). That's not going to appeal to nonurban America.

With Carol Browner, the same source reported her involvement with the Dubai Ports controversy, that's not likely to thrill a lot of people concerned about post 9/11 security during the Obama Administration.

And of course, Mark Lloyd would take down Beck in a second.

16. Cass Sunstein is one of the foremost modern First Amendment scholars alive today.
And I find it interesting that Obama is appointing him to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Much of his writing concentrates on how market forces are dismantling the real "marketplace of ideas" within American democracy.
