Why is Newsweek giving Cheney a platform to peddle his rancid lies?
and better yet, why does Cheney feel the need to give out these interviews?

I thought he only talked to Fox News?

The Man Without Doubt

In a rare print interview, Dick Cheney talks about Iraq, Iran, Chuck Hagel, his image as 'Darth Vader' and Bob Woodward.

Still Fighting: Cheney in his office, unbowed

Feb. 5, 2007 issue - A man with a reputation for secrecy and seclusion, Vice President Dick Cheney has spent the past few months out in public. He campaigned in the midterm elections, traveled to Saudi Arabia to talk security and eulogized former president Gerald Ford. Last week the perjury trial of his former chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby Jr., exposed what Libby's lawyer cast as tensions between aides to Cheney and President George W. Bush during the CIA press leak in 2003. In his first print interview since the GOP lost control of Congress, Cheney spoke to NEWSWEEK's Richard Wolffe. Excerpts:

1. I wonder if his mother ever told him his face would freeze that way.
That face is frightening.

2. I suspect he threatened someone.
He's the Godfather.

The article should be titled, "The Man Without Conscience".

As for the why . . . ????

He belongs in prison for life. (I nominate abu Ghraib.) He's not only a disgrace to the US, he's a disgrace to humanity.

5. Because it sells magazines?
and garners web-site hits?

You clicked on it - you're encouraging others to click on it. That's why.

Do you really think a major news magazine should turn down an interview with the Vice President? What you call a "platform for his lies" is really just a pretty exclusive news interview.

6. United States is here to stay
<snip>

They want us to have a major presence there. When we—as the president did, for example, recently—deploy another aircraft-carrier task force to the gulf, that sends a very strong signal to everybody in the region that the United States is here to stay,

Enough said.... :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

8. Because it's a news magazine?
I like this interview. First it is done by Richard Wolffe, Olberman's favorite ( and obviously on "our side")and also there are good questions asked. Cheney comes off as the slimeball that he is. It's hardly a Cheney-friendly article, IMO.

9. I like Wolffe too
:hi:

However, I find it "revealing" that Cheney is now trying to take his message to others besides Fox and Rush Limbaugh.

13. oops - I responded below before fully reading it
I expect less glowing platforms (sounds like this is one) as we move forward- especially after Martin's testimony in the Libby trial.

10. Ironic, given Martin's testimony last week...
don't ya think?

The interview was probably given before Martin exposed the Cheney/WH media manipulation game - including the use of Newsweek et al (and the very intentional selection of WHICH reporter they would talk to). Somehow doubt that this same interview and writeup would have happened after the testimony. Expect harsher interviews/coverage in the future. It isn't just the WH that plays the vindictive game - just read the transcripts of usually fawning Blitzer's interview with Cheney the other day.

11. His image as Darth Vader? I was thinking more like "Zodiac Killer"
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 01:08 PM by kenny blankenship
...you know, cause he's still on the loose. Anyway, Darth Vader, who unlike the other two kills for a reason when he kills, is just a fictional character from kiddie movies. Zodiac, or Cheney, are (is?) very real.
