I asked Obama to Do It and I was unrec to oblivion
I wanted President Obama to pull no puches with his HC speech to Congress.

According to the unrecs, DU completely disagrees with me.

20. I actually went and looked for it
Found 4 threads started by the OP; only one of them even mentions the HC speech - in the context of three other speeches and doesn't ask Obama to do anything.

I'd say unrec for continuing a discussion from another thread - but from anything I can find it doesn't even do that.

7. There are a LOT of people here that arent' Democrats, Liberals, Progressives etc.
The trolls love the unrec button. It gives them little erections everytime they click it.

12. Are you calling me a troll?
I don't "love" the unrec button; I was among those who didn't want to see it to begin with, and I still feel that way. I DO use it, since it's there. I unrec stupid threads that make, imo, the site look bad. I often unrec the cheerleading threads, because I strongly disagree with them.

I'm a leftist. A registered Democrat, but not a partisan at all. I'm not here for partisan reasons, but because DU is "one of the premier left-wing websites on the Internet." That statement is not very accurate any more, of course. DU, since the nomination of Obama, has shifted. More centrist than left-wing, in support of the centrist the party nominated and elected. Still, as long as that statement remains, the left is still welcome.

I'm sure there are as many reasons to unrec as there are DUers.

It's bad form to use that broad brush.

24. Nah, sorry about that. I ususally try to avoid the broad brush
But since the OP was a broad brush statement it was easier to grab a broad brush to respond. (It was early in the morning and I was still a little sleepy)

I too have unrec'd quite a few posts here. It's a great new feature.

9. unrec'd this on principle.
a) continuing a discussion in another thread
b) begging for recs.
c) rec/unrec flame war.

I have no idea about your other thread but this one smells.

11. And you consider a post promoting health care reform novel and part of the greatest?
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 07:31 AM by stray cat
Why is that type of post more meaningful then all of the others promoting health care?

13. Voting on Recommending or Unrecommending means what?
It doesn't mean the subject you mention in your OP is a bad one or a good one.

It doesn't mean you're a good person or not.

It doesn't mean DU disagrees with whatever notion you think you're championing.

It means that voters don't think your OP is worth recommending, and if your OP in the other thread was similar to this one is terms of lack of substance and whiny nature, it's easy to understand how it would be rejected.

You could spend some time here actually learning what threads get recommended, then you might actually try to make an OP that is worthy of being recommended.

15. Thank you!!!
Sheesh -- sometimes this place resembles a high school popularity contest. It would seem there are those who gauge the merit of a thread only by the number of recommendations it receives rather than the quality of its content.

It's a shame about the whining though. Reminds me of crybaby Glenn Beck.

Unrec's are a fact of DU life these days. Get used to it.

The DU topic that keeps on train wrecking.
Some advice:

if you start a thread regarding the unrec function, be prepared for it to be massively unrec'd.

If you whine why one of your own threads didn't just make us all squirm with delight, then be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you come across with an attempt to sound reasonable regarding the unrecing of one of your posts, be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you shout, "I'M BEING SILENCED", be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you feign ignorance as to why your post was unrec'd, be prepared to be unrec'd

And lastly...

If you start a thread regarding unrec, be prepared to be unrec'd, flamed mercilessly, and alerted to the mods as being a freep, troll, moron, in need of a pizza, etc.

Just a few of the simple facts of posting about the unrec function.

Cheers!
