I'm a cab driver...
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 10:51 PM by Puzzler
... and by current Republican logic, all the so-called free-marketeers and wingnuts should be backing me, my cab company and all of the other cab companies against the evil public option called mass transit... you know, those things called "buses" (and please don't complain about high cab fares, and denial of service!).

Gosh darn it, it's so difficult for us private cab companies to compete with the public "bus option". No fair, I say! What business does the government have getting involved with the transportation market?

What that you say wingnuts? Oh, it's not any small to medium sized private businesses you support, like a cab companies, it's only the huge multi-trillion dollar mega corporations that get the tea-baggers' unquestioning backing.

You can't pull the logic card on them!! Not fair, they're only playing - hmm, I was going to say a half a deck but, I think it's more like the Jokers.

6. I'm a big fan of taxi drivers....
Due to a bizarre series of events, I moved to Orlando Florida and immediately discovered that I had no drivers license eligible to renew.
That was April 2008.

I had to take a cab back and forth to work every single day for almost six months.
Thank God, I only lived 2 miles away from the office.
But, there was shopping, haircuts, doctor appointments and other things that required further distances, and longer trips.

I developed a friendship with two cab drivers, both of them brothers (literally), and both in my age range of 50+.
When my lawyer finally came through in October 2008, the same cab driver took me to the DMV to get my license, and to the dealer to get my new ride.

I tipped both of them generously, and I was rewarded with free rides, liberal minds (both of them) and a solid herb hookup.
When you are confined to home every single night, and every single weekend because you have no transportation, having some herb to calm things down was immensely important.

They are my friends to this day, and I hold them both as the greatest of good samaritans.

You guys do way more than drive.
You transport broken people and broken hearts.
You guys rule in a very tough job
You get paid nothing, and treated (at least my guys did) like shit.

I got more stories about those six months then I care to remember.
I had a cabbie drop me off in the middle of I-4 north of Orlando, because he wouldn't turn Sean Hannity off and he called me a "pussy".
I called the dispatcher to complain, and 2 hours later I got a call from one of my cab driving friends that this guy was looking for me.
Luckily, he didn't know where I lived, but he did call and leave some very threating messages on my cell phone.

Drive on my brother, drive on.

7. Kill the bus and trolly options!
Oh, wait...the car companies killed municipal trolly service a long time ago...

Hey, if they don't like it, they can stop driving on the socialist highways! And hire your own damn fire department! What are they supposed to do, sit around playing cards waiting for some whiner to say "Oh, help me, my house is a roaring mass of flame!"

And in my time, dad gum it, we had our own PRIVATE parks, on our estates, and no one was trying to bleed us to establish public parks.

This "promote the general welfare" Marxist/Fascist/Zimbalist business was must be stopped!

8. That was GM's bus division that helped kill trolleys
but I enjoyed the sentiment.

16. Taxi drivers have to put up with all kinds of scum, and it must be hard to not want to kill them
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 08:34 PM by TK421
I don't envy your choice of profession...I respect the fact that you stick with it. I honestly don't know how you can stick with it, but I would like you to at least make a decent living out of what you do....I'm not sure what you get paid there.

Perhaps people should think a bit before they step into a cab...and who's world they're stepping into

edited to add: I picture you as this

and if it's anything close....

ARE YOU HIRING?!!!!!!
