9/11 memorials - Wasn't there a "ringing of the bell" ceremony in previous years?
I seem to recall a bell being rung after each victim's name was read. I don't think it was at the WTC site, but at another location in lower Manhattan. Perhaps I'm confused ... maybe it was done at the Pentagon ceremony. Anyway, I always found it very depressing. :-(

I don't know why I'm watching the coverage. Every year, I say I'm not going to and every year, I end up turning it on. The MSNBC "rerun" of 9/11/01 is always upsetting to watch ... but for some strange reason, I sit there watching.

4. Yes, at the WTC site ... but I thought there a ceremony with a bell after each name.
It's not really important, it's just one of those things that pop into your head and drive you crazy because you can't remember the details, LOL! I figured if anyone would have some info, it would be DUers. :-)

8. A friend just told me it was done last year at the Pentagon ...
which would explain why I thought it happened in recent years. However, I vaguely remember it being done in NYC. Perhaps it was the five year anniversary ... or maybe even the one year anniversary.

Honestly ... just to know that it was done at some point somewhere makes me feel a lot less crazy, LOL! I hate having a memory and not being sure if I'm remembering correctly.

3. They did ring some bells
"Bells tolled throughout New York City for the first of four moments of silence - for when jetliners crashed into each tower and for when each tower collapsed." http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/11/national/main5302919.shtml

7. A friend just told me it was also done last year at the Pentagon when the memorial was dedicated
"And at the Pentagon, the names of all 184 victims were read for the first time as a bell rang out for each and the first major 9/11 memorial was dedicated."

I'm glad someone remembered. I hate when I have a vague memory of something, but I can't quite recall the details. It drives me crazy!
