Please - will everyone here stop watching/listening to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh??
We're supposed to hate these guys but the people who tune in every day are helping to keep them in business.

Really, I want these guys both to fade out of the public spotlight but it's impossible when some of their biggest fans are the people who supposedly disagree with them the most.

I don't like country music, ok. So that means I don't ever turn on country music! I don't go turn it on some day just to make sure I still hate it. I listen to stuff that I like. Country music is exactly the same as these two assholes. I know some of you think it's real life but it's not. It's entertainment. Surprise - they say things purposely to make YOU mad. They don't even mean half of what they say, they just say it cause you hate it and millions of wacko's out there like it. All it is to them is a big fat paycheck!!

Stop listening/watching folks. Let's actually boycott their shows rather than their sponsors.

2. OK
I never watch either of their shows, but comparing country music to those two assholes is just stupid!

3. Luckily, I never started.
I catch a clip here and there on the interwebz, but I've never actually watched or listened to either of them.

Or O'Reilly...

4. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've posted messages about this here and elsewhere, virtually to no avail.

I'd go even further and say stop watching Cluster Fox as well as shows and networks that feature these folk too.

I don't understand the mentality behind progressives giving ratings to these low down dirty rotten scoundrels.

In fact, I turn the channel or fast-forward thru KO and other broadcasters during their constant features of these dingos in segments of their daily shows. Giving them more airtime and listening to their evil, racist, anti-human inanity over and over is defeatist and masochistic, IMO.

Your analogy is spot-on. Don't know what kicked is, but I've rec'd your diary.

Thanks again.

I respect you're right not to watch, but geez, the "thou should not's" come from many directions, often with the best of intentions, but . . .

7. I disagree!
I think that all Liberals and Progressives should actually drastically increase the amount of attention given to Rush Limbaugh, his sponsors and the networks that carry him. Ignoring Limbaugh is like ignoring a severe infection. I think it is folly to assume that Rush will simply fade away. In addition, even if every Liberal in America quit listening to that fat gasbag, we would still be inundated with his message because he does, in fact, drive much of the debate in America. There are hundreds of "mini" Rush Limbaughs to be found across America at local radio stations hosting "local" shows. Limbaugh's vicious propaganda is even frequently picked up by conservative politicians nationwide and in Wash D.C. Rush has reached a point in America where it is impossible to escape from the hate that he spews from shore to shore 15 hrs. a week

For far to long, those of us on the left have not made addressing and countering the right wing hate machine, led by Limbaugh, a priority of critical and fundamental importance. In some respects, the importance of addressing the right wing hate machine is as important as issues like war and healthcare in my opinion.

8. I don't give a cent or ratings to the show, we need to know what they say
No one knows which station my radio is switched on. I don't watch his show. I think it is good to know the lies these guys say and then be able to dispute them with family and friends.

10. But we already know what they say and how they think . . .
It isn't as if they're espousing any new theories or spouting off new dogma contrary to their old. It's the same ol' same ol' from the same ol' folk. I don't have to watch Massa Buchanan to know what he believes or to hear what he thinks; been there, done that, have a tshirt and a cap.

To me, it is like going to the same spot on the same brick wall at the same time everyday, and pounding your head at said spot again and again. Personally, I can't stomach getting riled and stressed on a daily/hourly basis by people who care nothing about people like me, let alone not caring about people's sensibilities in general. Believe it or not, stress levels rise significantly - and stay high - while listening to these people. People may think they're immune, but this type of unnecessary infliction has a negative effect - psychologically, emotionally and spiritually.

Why constantly listen to folk like them when you can write their scripts? How is that enlightening?

But then, perhaps need to know outweighs healthy practices, huh?

18. "But then, perhaps need to know outweighs healthy practices" - why put us down?
It is pretty healthy for me to hear these guys and their listeners and how they are scared. I smile and laugh. I remember how I was worried about the last Prez. I can feel for these people, and still think that they are crazy.

I also choose to turn the station if they sicken me.

It also helps educate...they do an ACORN story and I post the people behind the story. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6520915">who's behind the new ACORN story

I urge you not to listen to either one of them though.

22. Not putting you or anyone else here down. Can't see why you would say that I am.
Obviously, to each his own; taste in comedy and humor is as subjective as one's taste in music.

Your concern is touching and I shall take your advice even when you infer that my not listening/watching/increasing ratings of nutcases leaves me uninformed. I still support the diarist and agree wholeheartedly with their post.

Thank you.

and have cut back on my MSNBC watching too, because it seems an awful lot of their talk is about what the loons are saying, and frankly, I don't want to hear it from anyone.

25. You and me both, DUer. It's all designed to whip folk into a frenzy and get them all
psyched out for contentiousness. There's enough stress in my life with daily survival without adding to it.

Nowadays, all people seem to do is fight each other even within the ranks of those who ostensibly hold the same idealogies. Even within this thread, you can find someone taking issue with someone else's opinion and attacking them for it. And we're supposed to be on the same side!

The world has gone totally crazy. People look for insult where there is none just so they can attack another. They'd rather do that than search for common ground on which to agree. I say it is because of the constant negativity they expose themselves to by listening to all the craziness.

Don't buy any products from companies who advertise before, during, and after their shows. THAT is how to get rid of them.

They are so sad and obvious that you don't need the use of a middle man (satirist) to LAUGH AT THEM.

17. It really doesn't matter.
They're funded by advertisers, and ad revenue is set by their Arbitron ratings (estimated number of listeners). If you're not keeping an Arbitron log or wearing a PPM (an automated radio monitoring device), neither the show or its advertisers have any idea whether you're listening.

I haven't heard a Lush Windbag show in years, have never heard a single Glenn Beck show in my life, and only listen to Savage when I'm in the mood to hear a paranoid psychopath rant on for hours and remind myself what we're fighting against. I'm not defending their radio shows here at all...I'm just saying that it doesn't really matter whether you listen or not.
