TV Newser: Glenn Beck's Best Numbers Yet

Nothing like a boycott to really hurt ratings.

Glenn Beck had his highest viewership ever Thursday averaging 3.34M Total Viewers. His was the second-highest rated program in Total Viewers in cable news behind The O'Reilly Factor's 3.61M.

And Beck was even bigger with the ad-friendly demo, putting up his second best numbers since the show premiered in January. In A25-54 viewers, Beck was #1 for the day, and remember, his show airs at 5pmET/2pmPT when viewers aren't in front of their TVs like they are at 8, 9 or 10pm. Although, last night many of those primetime viewers were siphoned off from all other channels, and instead watching the NFL's first regular season game on NBC which drew 17.75M Total Viewers.

— Total Viewers / A25-54 demo

• Beck - 3,340,000 / 958K
• O'Reilly - 3,609,000 / 918K
• Hannity - 2,986,000 / 831K

I have always been sceptical of Nielsen's ratings when it comes to FOX News...especially the method at which they arrive at the numbers. I still cannot believe that there are over 3 million brain dead people that tune in to this snake oil salesman everynight. Hopefully with the news that media giants, advertisers and marketers are looking to create better ratings systems, maybe we can get to the truth of these ratings

4. I would like to know that as well
How do they get to these numbers

Two years ago my brother was chosen to be a Neilsen household for one week. They sent him a booklet to fill out with his television choices. He didn't put down what he actually watched and just chose popular shows because "he wanted to keep them on the air"

2. 300,000,000 + people vs 3M viewers.
That's less than 1%. Remember that 30% approved of W. Sponsors don't care how many viewers a program gets if advertising is toxic.

3. That's why Thom Hartmann won't even say his name on air.
Remember that old saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity"?

5. Just a matter of time until Rush, O'Lielly turn on him.
Their egos are too big to allow this usurper to take their places. Rush is already even more of a madman recently than usual (if that's possible). O'Lielly has hunkered down. Forget Hannity, he's so full of himself he doesn't even know Beck is out there.

8. Beck is a very hateful person. It's sad he has such a high rated show.

Me too. I've always enjoyed walking into a place and seeing Faux news blasting away to no one.

10. Reading online, it looks like a bunch of Dems now watch it as a joke or gawking at a car wreck.
I don't. I can't take it but he keeps getting more and more outrageous so people seem to watch just to see how he could possibly top himself.

11. My husband and I have a theory about this.
We were discussing the new fall line-up and Jay Leno's new show. They said that they were going with the new Leno show because it was cheaper to produce than a sit-com or a drama series, and that people were more into reality tv.

Our theory, people still want the drama and sit-coms (who doesn't need a good laugh now and then) so people are getting that by watching beck, o'reily, and hannity. I mean really, sometimes you just can't wait to hear what they are going to come up next. LOL

What do you think?

13. Hmmm
I just got a Nielsen packet a few days ago...

With 2 dollars cash in it..

I guess I'll have to read through it and go answer their survey and see if there's anything fishy there.
