5. Not only do they have mummies in SC,
but they elect them to the Senate - over and over and over - from 1948 until he croaked at age 100 in 2003..............

The Honorable L. Mendel Rivers

Famous as chair of the House Armed Services Committee during Our War over there in the rice paddies.

8. Oh, my god, Mendy Rivers!
You're right, I did forget him. Or block him out.

You just reminded me - I remember talking with my boss, who had worked for Mr. Truman in the White House, about Rivers. Rivers hated Truman for integrating the military, and backed Strom for the Presidency in 1948.

When Truman won, Rivers got bupkes in terms of committee memberships or pork for his district. Truman shut him out.

I hope Obama knows about this...............

6. I honestly wish that we could let some part of the country secede
and they can institute a country where:

You must carry a firearm

You must attend church on a proscribed schedule and subject your house to random searches and wiretaps by "the authorities"

No stem cell research

No abortions or birth control

church run education

Censored media and entertainment according to "community standards"

Women are under control of either their husband or father

Modesty in dress - Little House on the Prairie mode

No police, no fire departments, no maintained roads, no public education, no parks, no libraries, no lifeguards, no mass transit, no NOTHING that is paid for by the community - too socialistic!

No health insurance - pay as you go

No Social Security or Medicaid or Medicare

No public utilities, no regulation of utilities

No environmental or zoning or development controls whatsoever - Hell, NO REGULATION ABOUT ANYTHING PERIOD

Controlled borders - no one in or out without permission

No workplace rules, no wage rules, no child labor laws

No consumer protection

No disaster relief

*************************************************************************************************************************************
We once had a place like that - it was called YESTERYEAR! Please, let them create Yesteryear once again. It could be three or four states large with giant plexiglass borders so the rest of us can push our noses against them and see what it's like to live in a foggy nostalgic fake past that had far more bad than good. And they can LIVE THEIR DREAM! Let them show the rest of us how a combination of Amish Country, Disneyland, and the Hallmark channel all come together into one utopian society.

11. Exactly! Of course Bootstrappia would NEVER accept aid anyway
(After giving it a lot of thought, I decided Bootstrappia would be a very appropriate name for the new nation.)

I was also thinking that since they hate unions, labor laws, etc.that this new country could become a more local third world type country for us to exploit. Instead of setting up shoe factories in other continents and paying 12 year olds slave wages, we can do it right here close to home in Bootstrappia.
