35. crowd
In the morning they had what they called a Liberty Summit at the DC Armory. The announced crowd was 800. I think that was accurate. You get an idea from the photos.
At 1 PM there was a 'press conference' on the Senate Lawn - maybe a few hundred.
The speeches were fairly predictable - the usual diatribe. Some of the crowd mimicked Rep Wilson's famous words. This was essentially a prelude to tomorrow where the crowds will be much larger.

she wouldn't be stupid enough to hold up a sign saying she'd rather go hungry than see the debt rise. Clue to idiot, we are already in debt.. thanks to the last President and the go along Republicans.. they spent on wars and shit we couldn't afford, and didn't do a thing to actually make the country better for Americans. They spent all that money, and no one can tangibly touch what they spent that money on. I believe food costs less than bombs anyday. Idiots... and holding a sign made up by Dick Armey's organization.. a man who clearly has never gone without food a day in his life.

46. Photojournalists trick number 42
If the crowd is small, really small - shoot everything very tight. Use a telephoto lens to compress space and make the group look thicker than it really is - and what ever you do NEVER pull out and shoot at a wide angle focal length so people can see the "crowd" is only twelve people long...

I'm glad he's here the photos are fun to look at, but as a photographer I don't need to ask many questions - I can usually tell the focal length used by the look of the photo.

I don't mean to sound at all insulting, that's how we teach PJs to shoot this stuff.

61. The makeup of the crowd is interesting, no doubt
But, in this case, considering the event, at least one photo depicting, as accurately as possible, the size of the crowd is warranted, imho. History shows that the sizes of anti-war protests in DC were grossly underestimated by our M$M, for example. I think it would be important for trusted blog sites, such as TPM, to accurately present the turnout, in the event that FreedomWorks et al attempts to exaggerate their numbers. After all, M$M is not a reliable in these matters.

67. Actually...
I think the one shot of of the folks sitting in the bleachers helps give an idea of crowd size - but shooting tight and wide should provide you with some great options.

I took the pictures. You make the most important point. When reviewing all the photos I noticed one Asian face. The rest appeared to be Caucasion.

83. Apparently this "grass roots" movement has no volunteers
And the paid staff don't include a photographer. I'm surprised they didn't think to hire one.
