my run in with the tea bag express
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 08:21 PM by KyleA
My wife and I went to our Friday nite stop for a couple beers before heading home from work when we noticed a group of people gathering outside. This was a tea bag express rally. Several people came into the bar with there anti Obama signs. One man was ordering at the bar and held up his sign right behind us.I asked him to take his bs sign down. The bartender said no discussing politics as he had said previously when I tried talking to one of the more lucid baggers. My wife said the signs are political but he asked me to"be the bigger man" I could see his point from a business standpoint but I am a regular. When we left we heard the crowd outside at the rally chanting "No Bama" and I lost it. I yelled "racist" and "I pay your medicare" and was confronted by several wackos. I had no intention of getting physical but the cops came over and told me "its their rally" and just watch and be quiet. I thought we had freedom of speech. Funny thing is my family has roots in this town going back to the 1930's and many of these nuts were bussed in. After awhile we left in disgust.

1. That sucks -
The bartender was wrong, the cops were full of it, and I would not have been as restrained as you.

It's their rally?

And it's your right to speak out

Man, I hope you have some good alcohol at home, or some sweet herbage, or something to calm you down, because I'm steamed just READING about what you experienced.

Bullshit. Total bullshit. It's all racism. God, I'm starting to hate my own country.

I'd find a new place to hang, by the way. That bartender blew it, and should have deferred to a regular, for sure.........................

2. I'd find a new regular hang out. Clearly, these idiots had a level of comfort to be there.

3. One thing that makes me feel better about the future....
Several football players from the local high school (including a couple black kids) came by and were not happy. One kid took off his jersey and wrote OBAMA on his chest. As for the bar they are hurting for business (and the two dollar beers and great food) are reasons I'll give them a pass. Most of these clowns were just passing through and spending money.

7. And a cop voiced his political views!
That's outrageous. They used their official clout with you and then one of them announces his political views. NOT COOL. Abuse of power.

9. And the crowd was more like 1000 to maybe 1500
not 3000 as reported in the local rag. They had streets blocked off and at least 10 cops on duty. What did this cost the tax payer?
