"Wanna Bet on Global Warming? You Can"
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Think global warming will raise the oceans enough to submerge Cape Hatteras? Want to bet on it?

An online gambling service has started taking bets on global warming, including whether it can submerge some of the East Coast's top vacation spots.

The odds that Virginia's Cape Henry will be under water by 2015 - 200-to-1 at BetUs.com. Its odds for Cape Hatteras flooding by the same date - 300-to-1.

Don't bet on it, says Phil Roehrs, a coastal engineer for the city of Virginia Beach. Roehrs said although sea levels are rising along the East Coast, scientists are not predicting anywhere near the levels and dates provided by the gambling service.

1. I could be wrong on this... and it's entirely speculation, but IMO the 8 years
is a bit quick. I do think we'll see a rise, and that eventually much of the coastline will be under water. But I'd say you're looking at 2050 or beyond.

the rising sea coasts, aside from the massive displacement of people? Think of how much more poisoned the ocean will become absorbing all the buildings, dumps, industrial sites and so forth as it slides up and over the coastline. I don't recall seeing anyone else mention this before, though, which surprises me. Maybe it's because it is thought to be off in the future a ways, or I am just not reading the right stuff about climate crisis.

4. Yep. Imagine what swallowing several dozen much larger cities will
do. And sadly the old "The ocean is huge, it can handle it" concept is long dead.
