Question for DUers - in the history of humanity, have people
other than the wing nuts in the United States ever demonstrated against health care?

1. Yeah amazing isn't it? It amounts to Oliver Twist going up to the owner of the poor house
and saying "please sir, you gave me to much mush", then handing said owner a full bowl of mush.

21. And not only that, but stealing the bowls out of his fellow orphans' hands
and turning them in, saying "Please, sir, none of us needs this. What we need is more hard work so we can all EARN our right to what little gruel you choose to give us."

2. lol. doubtful, but then those morans don't even realize that that's what they're
protesting. they think that their protesting commie gubmint takeover that will kill old people and ration healthcare. At least that's what the masses believe. And others are, or course, cynically manipulating their fear.

15. Killing old people?
I guess these idiots don't realize that one of the very few parts of our health care system that actually works is . . . you know the answer . . . Medicare.

3. health care is a fairly recent concept, however I'm sure
you could pick out hundreds of instances where humans took up arms to fight against their best interests.

9. Back in the day when we were all socialists..
I imagine there was a village shaman or medicine doctor that everybody could go to, and you just brought him/her food or built his/her hut for him as payment.

and I have never heard about people other than corporate owners who demonstrated against it.

Oh ye of the bottomless, corporation-filled coffers.

Since the 70's they've made it their busine$$ to ensure that that a majority of the population is persuaded beyond reason that "up" is in fact "down".

Less mush please, sir.

Ahhh.... BLISS.

12. It's Not Health Care They're "Protesting"
This is what will make today amusing. It's a criticism I had for the anti-war protests. While most on the streets were there strictly to speak out against the Iraq fiasco, on the podium, we had speakers railing about every cause under the sun...in fact few addressed what most wanted to hear. It was very unorganized and unfocused and it hurt the credibility of the movement as the corporate media was happy to show the fringe groups and not focus on the main topic. We'll see the same thing today.

We're sure to see a freak show of pro-gun nuts, anti-choice scolds, Paulbots and other asshats with chips on their shoulders. They'll bitch about the bank bailouts and being "weak" on security. If they do address health care, it will be nothing but lies and distortions...irrelevant on what's going on with any of the bills.

Actually, I have no problem with the wingnuts marching and protesting. That's both their right and what a democracy is about. Let them make total fools out of themselves as I'm expecting.

13. Yes. Many were dead set against pain relief for women in child birth.
You know, Genesis 3:16, paying for the sins of Eve.

May not come under the exact heading of health care, but it's an example of people not giving a rat's ass about other people's health.

19. Notice that they're very selective in what Biblical rules they choose to obey.
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 08:51 AM by sarge43
I doubt few if any Xtian women hand wave pain meds during child birth because they're suppose to bring forth their crotch fruit in sorrow.

They also seem to be selectively nuts.

It's OK for Wilson to shout You Lie to the President, because the Brits do it in their parliament, but it's not OK to have British health care or to cite British law. They're batshit crazy loonies. Whatever suits them can be quoted.

24. The serfs protesting against improved living conditions
It is quite insane. "No, we love our sod huts and working 24/7 on behalf of our Noble. He is very good to us and let's us have half a day off on his birthday."

Could their lives be so miserable that they look forward to disease and dying? Is it some repressed need for suffering and punishment?

26. 250 years ago there were a lot of people that thought smallpox vaccination was Satanic.
Jenner's smallpox vaccine was denounced by many wing-nut culture warriors in the years leading up to the Revolution.

The modern anti-vaccination nuts of the "intellectual" descendants of those nuts.
