Texas , Gulf of Mexico and Florida Duers
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 07:11 AM by malaise
A low pressure system is over eastern Texas and the adjoining waters along the Texas Gulf of Mexico coast. This low is under high shear, about 25 knots, and is not tropical. Shear is expected to remain high, 20 - 30 knots, over the next five days. The low should remain non-tropical during this time, but will bring much-needed heavy rains to drought-stricken south Texas. Flooding problems may also occur, and flash flood watches have been posted for six counties in extreme South Texas.

Early next week, we should be alert for tropical storm development along an old frontal zone stretching from the Florida Keys across the Florida Peninsula to the waters between the Bahamas and North Carolina. The NOGAPS model predicts development could occur on the Gulf side of Florida, and the GFS model forecasts that development is more likely on the east side of Florida.

--------
Keep one eye on those weather forecasts.

4. It's not...
But the rotation and size kinda remind me of outer bands of a hurricane.

7. Remember do not drive on flooded roads
Anything you think you have to do today can be done tomorrow or Monday.

12. I love the smell of rain after a long drought
When I was young we'd go outside and get soaked - it was so much fun.

13. I made it to my meeting and to shopping and only got a few sprinkles on the windshield
So the band that I thought might move in didn't.

Yes, driving flooded roads is dangerous - after Fay came through last fall, there was water running over the roads between town and our farm at least a dozen places. I was ready to simply go back to town and find a room for the night since we had no power any way, but hubby drove through. the water was less than six inches deep, but fast flowing. Hubby is a good driver, but sometimes he is stupid!

Weird - look at the radar for Tallahassee Florida at the National Weather service - it looks like there is trying to be a rotation center right where the Panhandle jogs north of Marianna - where the I-10 logo is: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=TLH&product=NCR&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

14. Thanks, malaise. I'm in the thick of it right now. Been raining steadily,
sometimes hard, for the past couple of days with still more to come.

but no yard work, either.

Let it rain.
