When I was in Washington with a quarter million people to protest the Iraq War
I don't remember CNN reporting it live beginning to end and making it the banner of their webpage.
Funny thing, that.

1. Of course not.
As many astutely pointed out, the 250,000,000 who didn't show up to protest supported the war. So there was no need to focus on such a small number of people, regardless of how vocal they were.

Next time you need to protest with at least 100,000,000 to expect any press coverage. (But realize that still means that 150,000,000+ don't support your position.)

Yeah, it's pretty funny all right....

2. That's the problem
You were polite.

What if we had had some Democratic Congresspersons shouting, "You lie!" to Shrub when he gave speeches about continuing to make war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

That was what the late 60's and early 70's were about, people being willing to be 'impolite' about things that mattered to them.

it. i know they underreported the numbers, but what else is new....

in 2005 the cdc reported evidence of tularemia when we were there, and didn't alert till we were gone!

5. True.
This was not among my best photos from the day, but it was one of the few that showed just a fraction of thousands in attendance. (This was January 2007) I remember how little (if at all) the event was covered.

16. Yep, I was there.
And we EASILY outdrew the FootShooter Parade. With NO major cable/radio promotion for two months prior.

I remember that day because it hit 60 degrees. As an Ohioan, 60 in January is like a slice of heaven.

Of course, when I landed two days later in Cleveland, it was 18 and snowing with fury. And the Failure Fuhrer was still president.

7. And, they've not shown the State Rallies in support of Health Care Reform
that have taken place all over the US with thousands at rallies and a few "Tea-Baggers" across the street. Nothing...exactly like the large annual demonstrations against Iraq Invasion and the Peace Vigils that are still going on in communities across America.

Only what Repuglicans and Fringe Right do gets thorough coverage. Because they are sponsored by Lobbyists and Think Tanks. We have to depend on large groups that work for Peace and Freed that are tarred as Socialist or Communist. Groups like A.N.S.W.E.R and United for Peace and Justice just don't have the clout of "Freedom Works," the Pharma Industry and Heritage, Cato and assorted fringe Religious groups.

14. When the war broke out on March 20th, 2003
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 02:02 PM by Downtown Hound
San Francisco's financial district and many other parts were completely shut down and blocked off by protesters. 2200 people were arrested in what was one of the largest mass arrests in the history of the United States. I was one of them.

There was nary a peep about it on the national media. They were too busy going ga ga over "shock and awe." It was at that moment that I realized just how bullshit the corporate media was. They censored the fact that one of American's most famous cities essentially got taken over by angry citizens. Instead they pushed the bullshit about how much support Bush had for his little imperial adventure.

If they can spin something like that, they can spin anything.

17. You know what else?
Today's Parade of the Asshats was promoted for 2 months prior on every major cable/radio network. The anti-war protests were grassroots, word of mouth gatherings and we still outdrew these jokers.

18. I was there too.
We knew most of what we know today, about Bush&Co, corporate takeover of media.

But now CNN and FOX are not only neglecting to report the truth, they are trying to destabilize this country!! Advocating crazy lunatics with violent agendas, and not allowing peaceful intelligent people at least equal time is criminal, is treason!
