Stop fighting Republicans. Fix the Democratic Party
I read all these posts about Tea Baggers and Joe the Heckler and I wonder why we are wasting our energy on the Republicans.
Last time I checked, they don't have a President. They don't have a majority in the Senate. They don't have a majority in the House. So why do we spend so much time pointing out how stupid they are? They can't touch us.
My big concern is that we count even count on the Democratic Party for votes.
What if we stopped bitching about the Republicans and put some heat on Democrats to actually vote like Democrats?
What if Olberman and Maddow fought on behalf of issues instead of parties? What if they fought for a public option instead of played gotcha politics with Joe the Heckler?

I'd like to know where DU stands.
What's your pleasure on health care?
Should we pass what Obama proposed?
Should we reject it and ask them to fight for a plan with a real public option?
Should Obama sign anything that moves the issue forward, even a little bit?

Personally, it sounds to me like the party has completely caved to the insurance lobby. And if that's the case, I saw we just fucking ingore the Republicans and spend the next 6 months holding the Democratic Party's feet to the fire on the issue.

3. Excellent points K & R.
I think we should concentrate on the Democrats to get single payer. Our compromise can be a robust public option and mandates to purchase insurance should never have been considered.

9. We can't control the Republicans. We can't do anything about Joe the Heckler
To me, we're in power. Every second spent playing neener-neener politics is a wasted second.
Does it do our cause ANY good at all if Hoe the Heckler is censured?
No. It just makes armchair political junkies feel good about winning a battle.

We have to get away from this Democratic Party vs Republican Party mentality. We have to win issues. Not talking points on MSBNC, Fox and CNN.

11. They don't realize they are being sucked into a deliberate game of us versus them

Diversion to keep the discussion off the real issues.

Obama gives a speech about how he wants to mandate private insurance and talks about a public option that is NOT a public option (5% of the population enrolled? Can't join if you can get private insurance through your employer, even if it is completely suck ass)....

Half the board won't even talk about the policy, happy to just back it up, and even MARCH ON WASHINGTON for the big insurance companies because they like the salesman.

This is insanity.

7. It may be that in this nation, as everything comes down to money

With the upper 1 to 4% owning 90 per cent of everything.

So how do we re-claim what is being lost? Doesn't it take trillions to fight off what the rich people's trillions are doing to our political process?

The BIG CHANCE at TAKING BACK OUR NATION was fought this week in the Supreme Court. And the reason for the fight was the issue of Corporations being able to vote with their pocket book, exerting monetary control over candidates by offering large sums of money to the candidates of their choice.

Unfortunately, the Corporations have won, as I understand it (I admit I fell asleep as C Span televised an "Audio" of the SCOTUS proceedings. I'd be glad to hear other wise, so feel free to clue me in if I am wrong about this.)

What has happened in America can be summed up in this one video -

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK7DRPyNAHA

The music is good, and the message is excellent also. (And no, I never agreed with Mike Gavel, but this is one heckuva well made video. The message is about the process and nto Mike Gavel.)

8. You're right
These Blue Dogs are hard to understand. Why don't they want a public option?

I know some of them are from conservative states. Maybe even the Democrats in those states are conservative. They may have run of platforms we would consider conservatives. It is like the rational conservatives are Democrats now.
