The parents of Cullen MacLeod, 23 months, claim their son suffered “serious and permanent burn injuries” after the hot hash brown fell from his mouth and onto his neck January 14, after stopping at a Quincy Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through.

According to the lawsuit, the boy’s mother said the hash brown was lukewarm, before handing it to her son to eat. The family claims the hash brown heated up “unevenly” and that the food’s interior temperature was “unsafe for public consumption.“

But I will say that if the restaurant uses a microwave to heat food before serving having the inside hotter than the outside the restaurant's preparation could be the cause of the burn.

The woman who was burned on that cup of coffee from McDonald's had to have skin grafts-- we don't know if this child was just mildly first degree burned (crying, some redness, ice on it) or if he was really, truly burned.

You shouldn't have given your less-than-two-year-old son a hash brown anyway.

First, a child may have been injured. Regardless of whose fault, an expression of sympathy would be nice. Secondly, because a mother drives through a fast food place to get food for her child tells you absolutely nothing.
My daughter lives in MA and is very careful to make sure her children eat well, fresh fruit and vegetables, no trans fats, etc. However about once a month she will take them to a fast food place as a special treat, especially as she may be coming off a 10 hour work shit. So before trashing the parents, get a little background.

It seems highly unlikely though, that a dunkin' donuts hash brown, given the size and density, could be tepid on the outside, and yet white hot on the inside. So white hot that it's caused terrible and permanent damage. I hope the judge does what everyone else is doing, namely :eyes:

I wasn't in the car at the time, to witness the series of events (was there a convenient video camera nearby?), but if I were to raise any children, I'd have them wait until we all got home and microwave the "food" at that point if needed.

The problems are systemic; let's sue corporations for compelling 90% of the public to work from 8:30-5PM and creating rush hour. But don't worry, the news media will be sure to remind us of that every year or so. And because there'd be one less thing for the newscasters, who make rather a lot of money for what they do (forgive me), you know nothing will be done about it. (Force people to improve themselves? No friggin' way...)

And if I ever make as much money as they do, I'll let you know.

Hot food can burn. I wait for things to cool down before feeding them to my kids. Common sense.

I'm not believing this woman's story. And the more I think about the more I suspect that the kid was probably already burned.
