Hitler and Mussolini were fighting to restore a 'pristine' previous world that was safe from changes. They were right wing dictators in the sense that they wanted to return to the past. Stalin and Castro (not that they are in the same league mind you) were left wing dictators in the sense that they wanted radical change from the past, not a return to it.

The founding fathers were progressives, not conservatives. Conservatives allied with Britian in the revolutionary war. Progressives are the ones fighting for change, improvement and egalitarianism, which is what the founding fathers fought for. Its probably not a coincidence that most were fairly secular either, more than most of the birthers are 230 years later.

On another note, Al Qaeda is a right wing terror organization, not a left wing terror organization. They are motivated by the same things these idiots are motivated by. Xenophobia, fear of external cultures forcing their way in, religious authoritarianism, supercilious bigotry against outsiders, fear of change, tolerance for social/legal inequality, fear of encroaching social egalitarianism (women's rights, gay rights, etc) etc. ALF is a left wing terror organization.

I'm not comparing the birther morons to Al Qaeda, but these ideological differences are important, at least to me.
