Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 05:35 PM by Skip Intro
it came from a facebooker, haven't seen it elsewhere. Any idea?

(on edit, changed arial to aerial)

again on edit, it is not from today, see Mosby's post #36 - I knew DU would come through!

66. BINGO!
I also love the "live" webcam shots that showed tons of people with a strangely cloudy sky and a flag at half mast, then suddenly the clouds changed.. the light changed. and the flag was at the top of the pole. People are grasping for straws out there. Desperate to pretend they have a movement.. when all it is is a bunch of angry old Glenn Beck groupies who are still pissed that Ron Paul didn't win. Most are libertarians in my neck of the woods, they're the ones pushing a lot of this, and the ones with the hitler posters.

Here's one from The Inaguration...

41. But not last January, and this is also not Todays photo.
Let's do the photography analyzing.

Did they have a bandstand close to the Capitol pool that big Today? There would have been pics of it.

The trees were definitely not green last January.

Even if it was a clear day, the shadow of Wash Mon. would make the time of the shot sometime in late afternoon (looks to me like 4-7pm depending on how close to Solstice), not before 12pm, when the event was taking place. The camera is facing east, meaning the shadow is obviously afternoon.

61. You're not getting it -
On a day like today, there is no shadow thrown by the Washington Monument. None.

You're making it far too complicated.

Just the trees give it away, and that's all it takes..................

39. I didn't say it was from inauguration day.
I said those kind of numbers would be inauguration type numbers, and I doubt that would have happened without gigantic media coverage. Fox at least would have had a helicopter hovering to get shots of that as much as possible, all day.

I was at the inauguration and have pics and the ground was brown, and the crowd at the Wash monument was on the other side.

The stage and speaker setups all through the mall make me think it's likely for some other event like free 4th of July concert etc.

It's nice to see that your enthusiasm for the teabag crowds had followed through many threads though! ;)

The tens of thousands of protesters marched to the U.S. Capitol chanting various slogans and waving posters that voiced a rather broad array of grievances against big government and the leaders, particularly President Obama, who the protesters blame for its size and scope.

68. yep. except for the 1.4 million part.

Hundreds of thousands of men participated in Stand in the Gap: A Sacred Assembly of Men, a day of personal repentance and prayer.

http://www.promisekeepers.org/faqs/faqs---general-information/what-was-stand-in-the-gap-all-about

The 1997 Washington Rally

A record-breaking rally "Stand in the Gap: A Sacred Assembly of Men" was expected to include 700,000 men on 1997-OCT-4 in the National Mall of Washington DC. The rally was originally scheduled for 1996, but was delayed one year. Organizers were concerned that it would have been politicized by being associated with the 1996 elections. The name of the rally is taken from Ezekiel 22:30, in which God looks for a man who will "...stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it..." (NIV) One initial attendance estimate was that over 1 million men came - the largest gathering of men anywhere. (Louis Farrakhan's Million Man March attracted 400,000 to 870,000. A 1993 Mass conducted by Pope John Paul II in Denver CO attracted an estimated 600,000 people.) The Metro subway system reported that 702,000 people had passed through its turnstiles by 9 p.m. Ridership on a typical Saturday is about 200,000. Both Promise Keepers and the National Park Service did not make estimates of the crowd size, but most professional estimators gave figures in the range of 500,000 to 1 million.

Scroll down to the mall shot
See area number 7, and the two little oval-like areas, adjacently north and south of number 7? that's where they were...that's it

there was NOBODY west of the blue pool (area number 8) directly west of number 7....NOBODY--I was watching specifically to see a long shot of the crowd to get an idea of size. it was the only one they showed in over a half hour of watching

check the rerun, if they have it.

it should be very easy to estimate the size of that crowd

did anybody catch those hip hoppers, btw? I can guarantee that Jon Stewart is going to have a segment on them......absolutely and without doubt the WORST 'rappers' I've ever seen, and the response of the crowd was great, too. lots and lots of not paying any attention at all.

can you think of a kind of entertainment LESS geared to those pasty white ignoramo-s?

I also scanned the crowd for any dark African Americans (to be fair, doesn't mean there weren't any) and found none, except for one of the two 'rappers.'

Dick Armey's phony tan was the darkest skin I saw...by far....didn't see Boehner

65. Here's a video posted from today's event that has a bit of an aerial view
I think it's safe to say that the pic in your OP is not from today. Seems it may, in fact, be from the Promise Keepers event in '97.

Anyway, here is some CSPAN coverage from today:

70. CBS News reported that...
"The line of protesters clogged several blocks near capitol." So based upon that, I think it's safe to assume that a lot of people were there whether or not the picture is legit.

at the patterns. Whenever the freepers try this crap, you can pick out patterns of people or traffic and compare.

Look at the area just to the right of the Washington Monument where there are few people on the grassy area. Look at the pattern of where people are standing. Also look at the pattern of traffic on the street to the right side of the pic.

Then compare the same patterns on the alleged 9/12 pic. They are exactly the same. It's absurd to think that people and traffic would be in exactly the same positions in both photos taken months (or years) apart.

I know the picture has already been totally discredited on this thread, but I just thought I'd add this, for future reference.

Not to give the poor morons any ideas, but you'd think they'd photoshop and move some of the people around.

eta> Just so it's clear, I'm comparing that picture to the link from FR in Girl Gone Mad's post #53 in this thread. I had about 5 tabs open and it's somewhat confusing. Here's the link:

Obviously taken prior to this decade.
