Whoops...VA Rushpublican Candidate Drops The F-Bomb...
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/58425-mcdonnell-drops-f-bomb-during-radio-interview

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell (R) is likely to regret his interview on Friday with WTOP radio, in which he accidentally drops the F-bomb while discussing transportation policy.

"So no tax will be raised during your four-year term?," host Mark Plotkin asks the candidate.

"I'm going to find other ways to be able to fund transportation. I've outlined 12 f--king funding mechanisms that are creative, that are entrepreneurial," McDonnell answers.

The slip is bad news for McDonnell, who has spent the past few weeks explaining away the controversial details of his 20-year-old graduate thesis. In it, the Republican candidate presented a series of ways the federal government could strenthen the "traditional family." He also argued government should favor married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators."

Looks like a campaign on the verge of a classic meltdown.

2. Man, I am so happy to hear that he is messing up.
He has been pulling a Palin here in Virginia with his television ads by using his kids to make him look "normal". He acts like 20 years in the past was a long time ago to have had such opinions, but he was 34 at the time, old enough to be set in those opinions.

3. I feel like breaking out in an Ethel Merman song ...
Every thing's Coming Up Roses!

Translation: This is a sweet gift as, his opponent, Creigh Deeds, is a wonderful guy but not as outgoing and gregarious. An even bigger "Macaca moment" than when McDonnell referenced his misogynous thesis when he was a grad student at a right wing university. So good! :-)

Yes, the F-bomb by such an self-avowed "Christian" is going to HURT Bob McDonnell's campaign.

This news needs to go viral in our Sweet State of Virginia.

5. Maybe he wants to legalize prostitution in VA?
That would be one fucking funding mechanism.

7. VA off year elections make it difficult to get traction.

Polling still shows McDonald way up (two different polls show him up 9% & 12%).

I wish VA would change voting for govenor to "on year" elections.

Also the combination of pressing economic issues, a recession, and growing transportation issues means that "values" are likely a distant issue this cycle.

8. It's All Ground Game...
I agree, it's tougher in off-year and even bi-annual elections to rev up the same folks who vote in a presidential year. It boils down to which party organizes and wants it the most. A couple years ago...with Mark Warner, it was the Democrats who were motivated to win as the GOOP had been on a roll around the country and his win was a moral victory that started the party on a long road back.

The rushpublicans need a big win badly...they've lost several special elections and their bench is real thin. The party continues to fracture but can rally (as we saw with Wilson) when and where needed. Seems like McDonnell is doing everything he can to hand Deeds this election...which would be devestating to the national party. Deeds came out of nowhere in the primary...can he pull it off again?

9. I agree on the ground game.
Trying to get people interested is a tough sell though.

I volunteered in 2005 election. Some people weren't even aware there was an election going on. :)
