I rode in a parade to escort a piece of the WTC to a memorial park.
On Friday, I participated in a parade of about 100 bikers to escort a piece of the World Trade Center that was purchased to honor the fallen fire-fighters of 9/11. It was a very emotional experience for me and others who participated.

A number of us walked up to the truck and placed our hands on the rusted steel from the north tower. I was immediately driven to tears. For me, it represented the day that this nation died.

I was reminded of how quickly we came together as a populace. There were no racial, political, or religious boundaries dividing us that day. Now, so much has changed. We are a nation divided. We despise one another. People have to walk through crowds escorted by police for expressing an opinion. We are a nation of fanatics, radicals, and lunatics, and yes boys and girls, we are unhinged. Touching the steel made me realize how unsafe I feel here now. How uneasy I feel in public places.

For a brief time on September 11, last Friday, I felt a bit of peace when riding with a large group of folks all remembering the same tragic day. A day when we stood together as a nation. A day when we looked upon each other as brothers and sisters, and not "socialists", not "liberals", just people...

3. I'm disturbed that in a modern country...
people are parading pieces of twisted metal down the street, across the country, for monuments.

Why don't we all put up a huge square black sheet around them and create prayer centers that people must make pilgrimages to.

Sorry to piss on your parade

4. You are so right. Everything did change on 9/11.
We were united as a country, with common goals and shared pain.

Then George W. Bush and his Republican terrorists ripped that unity apart, divided the country, and encouraged the spread of hatred and discrimination.

It will take years to repair the damage. I only hope that those responsible for this mess are held accountable for it. Justice has not been served.

Thank you for your participation in this touching memorial. There's a little bit of all of us in that twisted, rusty steel.

5. I could literally feel the sorrow in it.
My girlfriend asked me how it felt to the touch. It was cold, jagged, and it still vibrated with such a negative force that my heart began to pound in my chest, and became very heavy. There is so much of "us" trapped within the cold, dead steel now. I wonder if we will ever come together again, or if the terrorists have beaten this country into something as cold and unrecognizable as that piece of steel itself.
