Iran: Obama 'held captive' by Republicans, Ahmadinejad aide claims
The Republicans are not only destroying the chance for Health Care Reform. They're also undermining the President's influence overseas.

Tehran, 14 Sept. (AKI) - United States president Barack Obama is being held "captive by extremist Republicans", said the media advisor and close aide to Iran's hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday.

Ali Akbar Javanfakr, quoted by Iran's student news agency ISNA, said Obama's stance and behaviour regarding Iran shows that "he is held captive by extremist Republicans and has been very unsuccessful with keeping George Bush’s ideas out of the White House."

2. From a country in the grip of religious extremists, I'd say that's pretty rich.

5. Yeah, but the religious extremists aren't actually in charge here.
They just THINK they are.

6. Actually, I think Iran is being held captive by crony capitalists
in the Revolutionary Guard, who control almost half the economy, get almost all govt. contracts, and don't want to cede the power and privilege they have gained in Iranan society following the Iran/Iraq war. Some clerics, such as Khameini have allied themselves with them, because they have the shock troops (the Basij). But the truth is that it is the crony capitalists in the high ranks of the Revolutionary Guard who are calling the shots, not the clerics. The government of Iran is now Islamic in the same way that Chinas is communist.
