Gore's 'Truth' given cold reception in Seattle
Father gets schools to demand balance on global warming

Blaine Harden, Washington Post

Friday, January 26, 2007

(01-26) 04:00 PST Federal Way, Wash. -- Frosty Hardison is neither impressed nor surprised that "An Inconvenient Truth," the global warming movie narrated by former Vice President Al Gore, received an Oscar nomination this week for best documentary.

"Liberal left is all over Hollywood," he grumbled after the nomination was announced.
---->
"No you will not teach or show that propagandist Al Gore video to my child, blaming our nation -- the greatest nation ever to exist on this planet -- for global warming," Hardison wrote in an e-mail to the Federal Way School Board.

The 43-year-old computer consultant is an evangelical Christian who says he believes that a warming planet is "one of the signs" of Jesus Christ's imminent return for Judgment Day.

There is no "opposing" view on global warming, unless you are a complete nitwit with your head in the sand.

IDIOTS.

15. People are so easily sidetracked.
The process of presenting opposing opinions seems fair, but only when they are opinions.

Then everyone gets used to the point-counterpoint rhythm and fails to notice when they cross the line into countering reality with lies.

"Everyone's entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts."

8. Not at all. The ban was lifted on Tuesday-
sni>
The ban, which the school board says was merely a "moratorium," was lifted Tuesday night, subject to rigorous conditions. Still, the action has appalled the film's producers and triggered a ferocious national backlash.

Members of the school board say they have been bombarded by thousands of e-mails and phone calls, many of them hurtful and obscene, accusing them of scientific ignorance, pandering to religion, and imposing prior restraint on free speech.

12. Regarding This Imminent Return Of J.C.
There is something truly morbid about the fact that supposedly everything on this planet is going to fall apart, and go to shit, before we get to see this so-called "return" and judgement day.

So, after WW III, after the Middle East countries have destroyed each other, and the rest of the world has become involved, and destroyed themselves too. After we've managed to destroy the infrastructure of the planet itself. After global warming has rendered the planet unsuitable for human life.

THEN.....AND ONLY THEN......the big J.C. will make his triumphant return.

And what if we're wrong, and the planet just dies and the human race along with it. What then? Who will be left to say...."Ooops. Guess we were wrong."

to god (put your favorite god or gods name(s) here) that your wife doesn't die from cancer, and she does anyway, well, it's "God works in mysterious ways!" Religion is the greatest sales product of all time, it makes you feel good when you buy it, it makes you feel bad if you don't( it tries to scare the shit out of you that you are going to hell), and it comes with absolutely no warranty. Really and truthfully religion is THE greatest sales product in history.

Not when we as humans try to create the conditions. It also talks about trying to guess the day that it will happen, it says don't do it. This idiot is going to be one of those that are left behind because of his bad theology. Jim Wallis talks about this kind of bad theology in his book Gods politics: Why the right gets it wrong, and the left doesn't get it.

Whether Jim Wallis or anyone else thinks the theology is good or bad isn't the point. The point is that nobody should be teaching theology in the public schools. Everything works better when we stick to reality-based instruction, teaching only what the data support.

21. Well, fine, keep your kid home that day and leave the rest
of the world alone. Christians have been saying since the days immediately following Christ that the end days are *here now*. He may have to wait another 2,000 years or longer!

I don't understand why some very conservative Christians can't understand science at all. I don't happen to feel like it contradicts with my beliefs at all. So all the scientists tell you about climate change and you just decide its not so? WTF?

What the book says is truth. WHAT THE BOOK SAYS IS TRUTH THERE IS NO ARGUING WITH THE BOOK. THE BOOK IS THE WORD. THE WORD. DON'T QUESTION THE BOOK.

Science is a threat to the people who hold the above beliefs. It involves research, fact finding, worse independent thought.

You throw these items into the mix and all of a sudden you start to question what was supposed to be undisputed beliefs designed to control you-which is why fear is the biggest weapon they have and obviously it has worked well for them for some time.

Liberal Seattle has a few bush supporters but not many.

The rural areas are overcrowed with Bush supporters. I think it works like this - the further from the big city and into the sticks you get, the more red it gets.

http://www.geocities.com/f_Hardison/resume.doc

This guy is a buzzword bore. My read of his resume is that he knows just enough to be able to bullshit/bore non-technical people into thinking he knows what he is talking about. He sound's like the kind of person who thinks they are smart, knows everything necessary and doesn't mind telling anyone who will listen about it. Claims 9 years of college but hasn't completed his Bachelor's despite his high energy, motivational, inspirational self starter soft skills and old fashioned work ethic. He has "recently read" many books, including:

The World is Flat in 2006
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus in 1996
What your father didn’t know and your Mother couldn’t tell you in 1996
Building Electrician Principles in 1995
Refrigeration Engineering in 1995
Electrical Appliance repair in 1995

Undoubtedly the manager from hell that you never want hired into your department. I wonder how many people have quit their jobs to get away from him.

Apparently plagued with annoying Powerpoint presentations (by guess who?) during comment periods, his city council has considered banning Powerpoint at meetings....

Has he considered that Jesus might be really, really upset that we are letting such a thing happen? After all, it's already been proven that the poorest people in the world will be hardest hit by all the negative consequences of global warming ... and Jesus had a lot to say about poverty and inequity issues.

There was a wonderful cartoon posted a while back by a churchgoing DUer, which showed Jesus looking at a devasted environment and saying "I'm not taking anyone anywhere unless you clean this up right now!"

He simply pointed out where the world has made errors and what the effects on the globe has been. America is certainly not alone in this. This is just another example of the old tired "blame America first crowd" line that makes no sense.

So if I make up some hair-brained religious tome to explain some scientific phenomena, I can get said tome taught in schools or use it to control what schools teach? How about this..... "Nuclear fission is part of Jesus plan to make everyone float into outer-space and become Martians." This makes just as much sense and has a similar scientific basis as "Frostys" theory.

It was written 32 years ago."
