Thinking about Republicans

One wonders if the emphasis on math and science in public education since Sputnik might not have been a gave mistake. A focus on civility in public discourse, improved reading comprehension, and an appreciation for logic in argument as well as common speech might have made more sense.

It seems obvious enough that as the Republican Party shrinks it becomes more maniacal. The crazies were always there, they were just thinned out by more moderate Republicans who have since fled the Party. So now we have this crazy-dense party spewing unmitigated hatred. Without the calming voice of the moderates the remaining crazies are feeding themselves. They've become sort of a breeder-reactor with every outrage a new low the base on which to build the next. You think "You Lie" is as low as they will go? Not a chance. There has to be a bottom though. I just hate to think, and honestly can not imagine, where it might be.

And then there is the prevarication. There was no lie Republicans will not tell to support their position. Not only is there no lie they will not tell there is no person they will not lie to and no place in which they will not tell their lies. They lie on the public airways, they lie in the churches, they lie on the floor of our very Congress. What hope can there be for a Party that lies like this?

It can't go on like this. I don't see any way the Republican Party can resurrect itself though. I think an entirely new conservative party will arise - one led by adults. It has to happen but there sure isn't anyone in the Republican Party today who can revitalize and clean up the mess they have become.
