7. blatant sexism
Yes, we have to go to OB/GYNs. Does that merits raising the rates??? Nah... it's sexism. Lets face it, a lot of men (not all!!) won't go to the doctor unless there is something wrong with them. If women go to the doctor more for preventive measusres, shouldn't it even out in the end?

4. Every single American
should be charged the exact same rate.

The math is simple: (dollar amount of health care cost, total, for all Americans) divided by (All Americans).

9. And what will they be able to charge for pre-existing conditions?
If there is a mandate and insurance companies are required to cover pre-cons then how much will it cost the consumer?

12. Does this have to do with MATERNITY coverage?
I've not read it but it is normal for women to be charged more for maternity coverage, for very obvious reasons.

13. Wouldn't that violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
The act prohibits discrimination on account of race, color, national origin, gender, and religion.

17. The insurance industry
which we will find wrote the Senate bill, is notoriously oblivious to anti-discrimination law. They charge men more for life and auto insurance, they charge the single more than the married, they charge the old more than the young for health insurance, and the young more than the old for auto insurance.

They base it all on "actuarial tables" which are shorthand for "treating you like a member of a group rather than as an individual". I'm not surprised that they are blind to it in this situation.

15. Also I don't know if this old news but no public option in the bill
IT's co-ops! I don't know how many fucking bills there are or how many games are being played-and I kinda pay attention no wonder Americans are confused.

Where's the goddamn liberal tea party anyway?

Baucus is Repug masquerading as a Dem.

http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSN1027536920090916

Story just hit the wires.

Democratic Senator John Rockefeller, a Finance panel member and strong backer of a government-run "public" option that is not included in the bill, said he could not support the measure unless there are significant changes.

"There is no way in its present form that I will vote for it," he said of the Senate Finance bill, the product of months of negotiation between three Democrats and three Republicans on the panel -- the so-called "Gang of Six."

The bill is scheduled to be made public on Wednesday even though no Republicans have yet signed on to support it, and the full committee will vote on it next week.
The proposal from the panel's chairman, Max Baucus, does not include a government-run "public" insurance option, opting instead for non-profit cooperatives as a way to increase competition for insurance companies.

for domestic violence since it's considered a "pre-existing condition"

22. That happens now
Women are usually charged more for health insurance until about the mid 50's when men's premiums catch up. Men are usually charged more for life insurance.
