Hooray! We are all Republicans now.
I cannot think of anything that sums up the pug legislative approach of a never-ending circle-jerk of anti-American non-governance than spending actual legislative time passing a measure criticizing someone for calling the President a liar.

Having spent the bulk of my adult life calling the President a liar (Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Bush II) I would be a real sack of shit to view the matter any differently.

But carry on...

2. You aren't a member of the House and you haven't broken a Rule of the House
That's what is at issue here.

And if you think there is no precedent for this kind of thing, you are wrong. Many Representatives have been publicly rebuked for violating the rules of the house.

3. Shit I thought you were refering to the Baucus bill
But yeah, I agree. THEY DO NOTHING. They waste time congratulating themselves on their rules and civility.

Where's the liberal tea party anyway? You know the one that calls out insurance companies for the evil fucks they are. YES, Dear RAHM, they are people too that work for them-that doesn't mean WHAT they do is moral or good for anyone.

4. It's not the shout out, it's the violation of House Rules.
Unless you're a Member of the House of Representatives, this wouldn't apply to you.

8. And had some Representative yelled Bush was lying during his address before the Iraq War...
...everyone in this thread would have been desperately calling for a measure criticizing the shout-out because DU is first and foremost about strict-liability enforcement of obscure House rules over and above any specific speech-content.

9. I wouldn't have been cheering him on, that's for sure.
But see, the point is that this DIDN'T happen under any other president. It happened now. The town hall circus crept into the House. That is not acceptable.

5. When exactly were you elected to the House?
When you do. well doing that ON THE HOUSE, while the President (regardless of party) gives an address to Congress, then by all means, you shall be rebuked too

13. And I was disgusted by the Dem compromise measure on that
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 08:28 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
As I recall, the proposed Democratic measure (Boxer's, I think) condemned both Move-On AND some right-wing thing, as if the problem was a lack of evenhandedness, rather than the creepy lameness of Congress wasting time critiquing what someone said.

Fair-and-balanced. Sigh.

(I would have abstained on the Move-On measure because even voting against it is to treat it like something legitimately before the body.)

People say and do stuff. All of us can judge for ourselves what we think of what people say without Congress weighing in.

I thought Wilson came off as an ass--not because he called a President a liar, but because he's a tea-bagging fuck-wit who lacks the personal standing to call anyone a liar.

And I didn't need the House of Representatives to tell me that.
