Limbaugh implied today that racism is totally justified.

I had to pull the car over and stop. I've heard him say some god awful things before, but today, he just unleashed the crazies.

I don't have the text or a link, but he was talking about the Newsweek cover article about babies and race. As usual, he took parts of the article out of context and said basically that, if white babies are born racist, then how can they be blamed for being racist and looked down upon, any more than gays?

This man is intentionally lighting the fuse to a potential powderkeg. Things are getting really ugly in this country. I cannot believe this kind of talk is allowed on the airwaves.

1. Which begs the question
Why were you listening to this crazy lunatic while operating a motor vehicle?

Should listening to Rush Limbaugh while driving be illegal?

Should there at least be a warning about operating heavy machinery?

19. It raises the question.
It doesn't beg the question.

2. He's made millions on racism. That's been his whole schtick. What made him
popular is that he cleverly tapped into the hidden xenophobia of his listeners. Yes, his listeners would say, he speaks how I feel, how our country is no longer ours because "they" are taking over. Now he can't even hide it in his in between the lines messages like he used to. I truly hope this all comes out in the open and the big expose of these racists and liars happens. Maybe in the end they will go down in flames when the listeners and Kool-Aid drinkers realize that they have been played like fiddles.

7. Yep. People forget how incredibly racist Limbaugh's entire schtick is.
They think that it somehow just started, when he's got one hell of a long history of stuff that's not even debatable.

3. It's the rightwingnut MO; war crimes committed by republicans? Well gee, war crimes are GOOD.
Laws broken by republicans? Well gee, those laws were BAD and it was GOOD to break em!

Racism rampant with republicans?

Well gee, racism is GOOD!

4. so, his thesis is that racism is genetic?
I don't think so. You are born blue-eyed or brown-eyed, blonde, brunette, or redhead, tall or short, straight or gay. No such gene for irrational hate of fellow human beings. If ever there was a learned response, racism is it, learned at a mother's knee. Probably the same mother holding the "lyin african" sign.

12. from "South Pacific" ...
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!

24. Actually it was the lead story in the Newsweek article, what he was doing
was equating the genetic gays to genetic racism (if true) and saying they should get equivalent acceptance.

11. No it doesn't
Radio ratings are calculated by statistical sampling of people who are paid to keep diaries. Advertisers also use coupon codes in phone-in offers to know which station you heard their ad on. Other than that, what you listen to makes no difference. If it did, your radio would also have to be a transmitter.

10. Ratings are based on random listener surveys
Arbitron mails out little "diaries" with instruction on how to fill it out according to what you listen to. After a week, you mail it back.

suffice it to say, I was perturbed about the sensationalism of the the headline chosen by newsweek.

Additionally? I do solemnly swear that I have lanced infections that contributed more to a thinking society than Limbaugh ever could.

25. "Is your baby racist?"
The article talks about the natural preference babies have for likeness. If they are born into white families and spend infanthood looking at white faces they prefer white faces. To which I say, DUH. They show similar preferences for their own language, the smell of their mother, etc. It's innate.

That is not racism. Racism is when someone decides a person has less value as a human being because of the color of their skin. That is a learned behavior.

20. Fariness Never Covered Hate Radio...
I worked with the "Fairness" Doctrine...it only dealt with political advertising...meaning political candidates and allowing them equal access to the airwaves when either BUYING commercial time during an election (a station couldn't charge one Candidate a different rate than another) and in an PUBLIC AFFAIRS programming...the boring stuff no one listens to on Sunday morning. Thanks to "deregulation" Public Affairs are all but eliminated on most station.

Rushbo's game was that he claimed he was an "Entertainer"...thus his show is content...entertainment...not a political broadcast, thus the Fairness Doctrine never would have applied.

The people responsible for Rushbo are the advertisers and station owners who air his swill. It's the product where a handful of corporates control the vast majority of major radio stations in this country that have a vested interest in making money off of Rushbo and tolerating (and in many cases, agreeing with) this racist slimeball.

The best way to rebut on the "public" airwaves is re-regulation...forcing the large corporates to divest to smaller, more local owners who will replace that venom with local programming and open up the "public" airwaves to more voices and opinions.

21. Tuesday - "Acorn is Obama and Obama is Acorn. You cannot separate the two."
Pretty close to exact quote. I heard him for about 15 seconds pulling out of my driveway. Something further about Obama's days as a "community organizer" and how he worked with ACORN.

But anyway, think about what I quoted above. ACORN was/is being demonized as voter fraud perpetuators-enablers and as responsible for all the bad mortgages and now as pimps/child slave/immigration fraud co-conspirators. I can't emphasize enough how completely evil it is of Limbaugh to conflate Obama with ACORN into the weakened and febrile minds of his listeners.

(I hit the frequency changer and got NPR and the Jefferson Hour - quite the dichotomy.)
