Ex-roomie: Rudy isn't going to run

HOWARD Koeppel, the gay car dealer who was Rudy Giuliani's roommate in 2001, predicts the former mayor will not run for governor next year. At the recent book party for "Betrayal: The Life and Lies of Bernie Madoff" by Andrew Kirtzman, Koeppel was overheard telling Ch. 4's Melissa Russo, "Rudy is not running." Koeppel told us yesterday, "He (GHOULIANI) told me he would never want to be governor. The state is unmanageable, and having to deal with the likes of Shelly Silver . . . That's what he told me when he was living with me." Giuliani and Koeppel also shared their apartment with pianist Mark Hsiao, who married Koeppel last May at a ceremony Giuliani failed to attend. "There's a lot of issues to keep Rudy from running," Koeppel said. For one thing, his former Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik is facing trial on corruption charges. A source close to Giuliani said, "He is going to make a decision some time after this year's election. Clearly, a lot can change in eight years."

1. FWIW - there were rumors for years that the Cuomo family and
Geraldine Ferraro's husband had Mob connections. We can't choose our families. I'd mention Kerik, but leave Guilliani's dad out of it.

2. When I lived in Jersey the version we heard was that Mrs. Cuomo's
family (her father) had the connections. In this day and age the Cuomos and Ferraros would be considered pillars of the community...LOL. The Gottis they were not.

4. There was literally a plane sitting on the runway waiting for Mario Cuomo
to fly to New Hampshire to file papers for the primary when he decided not to run. Was it to protect his wife from the pain of seeing her family's name dragged through the mud? Would he have been one of the great Presidents?

5. That is exactly why he did not run. Mrs. Cuomo is a very sweet woman and
he felt this would hurt her and the family too much. He definitely saw the writing on the wall. And I would agree he would have been one of the greats imho...
