Maybe Wilson is way too steeped in the old values of yesterday's South, when white men might have had sex with the black women who worked for them, but those women and their children knew better than to talk about it.
Not around white people, anyway. There were reputations to consider, so the truth was not allowed. For some, those were the good old days when people knew their place.
