ACORN is small peanuts...
but a great partisan issue for the Republicans.

Since 1993, they have taken about $53 million dollars in government grants. That is less than $4 million per year. I'm certain if someone wants to investigate where government money has gone, they can find a bigger culprit. In fact, they may even be able to find individuals, in defense contracting and other areas, that have taken more money than the entire group of ACORN.

ACORN should be investigated, like all others getting government grants, and the bad apples should be thrown out. For the Republicans, this is much like Reagan's welfare queen driving the Cadillac to get her food stamps. All the people on food stamps did not drive Cadillacs.

ACORN is no different than any other business or organization. They can have problems and be defrauded themselves.

Larger fraud is being committed by the companies with no-bid contracts like Halliburton, BR and Blackwater. How much public tax money is unaccounted for in those schemes?
Billions more than ACORN I'm sure.

The main reason the Republicans hate ACORN is that they register low income people and everyone knows how they will vote- for the Democrats obviously. The Rs can't stand this so ACORN has a big target on its back.

ACORN was one of the first organizations to throw up red flags about the predatory sub-prime mortgages that many lower wage earners were lured into.

3. That story Reagan kept repeating was not true...
yet he loved to tell it long after he was told it was not true. It just sounded so good to the racists. (They all just knew it was a black woman.)

6. A lot of people on welfare drive cadillacs -
of course, the cadillacs are 15-20 years old and held together with duct tape, but they ARE cadillacs.

When a good car is past its prime, it winds up on a used car lot selling for $999, and nobody not on welfare would bother with it.

4. you are exactly right
This is small potatoes. We probably gave that much to Blackwater last week (and according to reports there are ACTUAL child prostitutes involved there).

However if you listen to the talking heads on "Faux News" they keep hyping it up by saying that Acorn "could" get up to 8 billion of the stimulus money. Nothing like whipping up your base over stereotypes and hypotheticals.

And even the voter registration fraud scandals were a joke.... how is Mickey Mouse going to show up to vote anyway. Much more interested in all the peopple stricken from voter rolls in FL and other places by Republican election committees b/c their names were close to those of felons or whatever.

I saw on Glenn Beck (I know -its toxic but he seems to have my parents and in-laws in his sway so I need to hear what he is saying) where he was complaining that the other MSM outlets barely reported on this - I forget the exact figures but suffice to say just about everyone reported on Acorn in low single digits, except Faux which reported on the issue 51 times. And he was screaming - where is the media?? Umm, probably chasing more important stories.

Next please.

5. How much has Blackwater taken? And what are their crimes?
It's appalling that this BS "issue" is getting so much coverage in the M$M... but hardly surprising.

7. This is what is firing up all the right wingers around here about ACORN
http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/obama_bailout_bill/2009/01/27/175729.html

And the debunking of it...

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/02/the-stimulus-bill-and-acorn/

It's really got them in a tizzy, and up in arms, and going to protests.... One of their top issues that is lighting the fire under their butts and getting them up and active.

Especially with the registration fraud cases in so many states.

They are dead set to try to make sure ACORN or any affiliates doesn't get a dime of federal or state money.

The other main issue is the deficit, debt, bailouts and increased spending of money we don't have. And yeah most of them are pissed and vocal at Bush's spending and deficit as well. Half of them say Bush cannot even call himself a republican with his spending record. Strange they don't see the wars as wasted spending.. ;)

9. They see ACORN as a political group and just an arm of the democratic party.
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 12:23 PM by TxRider
Truly.

They see them as a 100% partisan democrat org. using government funds for partisan political purposes.

They really do not know anything else about ACORN except the fact they endorsed Obama, and signed up millions of voters, and get government money. They think it is simply wrong to have the government give millions to a partisan political organization.

It's not race issue at heart, though race is surely factor with some wingnuts.

Now the repubs have convinced them ACORN is set to receive billions, in their minds it is the government giving billions to a partisan political group to advance a partisan political agenda with taxpayer funds, and they are freaking LIVID about it... Despite it not being factual.

That's the deal with the census as well. They are convinced a partisan political group would push their agenda into the census program and skew the census with partisan bias, using taxpayer funds.

11. Not just any arm. They see them as Obama's SS. Their views are rooted in delusions, not knowledge.
Their delusions are guided by blind hatred. Their hatred is rooted in racism. And it was all out for public display on 9/12.

10. I haven't been around for a few days so I'm not completely caught up on the acorn thing,
but from my understanding is that some people gave advice about a made up brothel and underage women to a person while being video tapped without knowing it? Am I some what correct?
Is what they did illegal? If so how is Yoo not also in legal trouble for doing the same thing, other then the info he gave was actually used to commit a crime.

Do you see where I'm going with this.
