Poll question: Does what goes around come around?
Or to put it another way, do you believe in a just universe?

5. So Bill Gates has helped the most people? W. Bush most deserved the position of leader?
Congress has 95% incumbency rates because of congresspeople's famous incorruptibility?

If karma exists, it works pretty selectively.

8. Another would be that this is all an elaborate defense of the status quo.
Princes ruled because "god wanted them to." US soldiers slaughtered native peoples "because god wanted them to." And now, George W. Bush is put in place via hocus pocus (but, like a sad clown, is crying on the inside)?

I don't buy it. I think it's a way to placate the otherwise powerless.

15. IF that is the way the world works; what is the value to not being a backstabbing asshole
I mean I have certainly seen backstabbing assholes do very well professionally.

13. All I mean is, if you send out negative energy, it comes back to you, karma or no karma.
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 12:56 PM by closeupready
I mean, I realize it's a simplistic understanding of the concept, but whatever you want to call it - karma, juju, vibes, whatever.

Likewise, with positive energy. Have people pushed back on George Bush's mistakes? SMU refused a George Bush Center for what was it, international relations? Look at how Cheney was received at the University of Wyoming last week. For those of us who believe in karma, these are predictable responses to how members of the Bush administration conducted themselves. I doubt even they are surprised by the animus that's out there for what they did.

4. Nobody gets out of this life pain free
However the amount of pain has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of goodwill or evil that the individual generated.

11. In your dreams.
In the real world, as often as not, the guilty (like bushco) go free while the innocent (like the working poor) are fed to the prison-industrial complex, among other things.

12. The answer to that one is the same as "Do what you love, the money will follow" -
"Er . . . Sometimes."

I wish I could believe the phrase "Do what you love, the money will follow" . . . but too often, what we "love" is nothing more than a crapshoot when it comes to whether that will pay your bills or not.

Just like the notion of KARMA only happens to some people. Exhibits A & B: George W Bush and Dick Cheney. They destroyed a country and all they got was away with it.
