I remember A VERY DIFFERENT PROTEST where the total number of participants was also hard to pin down
February 15, 2003, little over a month before the Iraq invasion began.

Where it happened:

Alpine Countries
Benelux
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Malta
Poland
Portugal
Russia
Scandinavia
Serbia
Spain
Turkey
Ukraine
United Kingdom
Scotland
Northern Ireland
Canada
United States
Mexico
Australia
New Zealand
Antarctica <--- Yes, even there.

Wikipedia:

In 2002, the United States government began to argue for the necessity of invading Iraq. This formally began with a speech by U.S President George W. Bush to the United Nations General Assembly on September 12, 2002 which argued that the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein was violating U.N. resolutions, primarily on weapons of mass destruction. The proposed war was controversial with many people questioning the motives of the U.S government and its rationale.<6> One poll which covered 41 countries claimed that less than 10% would support an invasion of Iraq without UN sanction and that half would not support an invasion under any circumstances.

Anti-war groups across the world organised public protests. According to the French academic Dominique Reynié between the 3 January and 12 April 2003, 36 million people across the globe took part in almost 3,000 anti-war protests, the demonstrations on 15 February 2003 being the largest and most prolific. The invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003.

Compare this to the photo posted in a different thread by DUer jpljr77:

The numbers for the Teabagger protest are hard to nail down because their organizers lie like goddam rugs.

The numbers on 2/15/03 were hard to nail down because nobody ever had to count that high when estimating crowd size at a protest. There were too many of us.

So chew on that, 'Baggers. Color me un-im-fucking-pressed.

7. Thanks for posting those pictures.
I have been looking for the 2002-2003 pictures I saved of the war marches. No publicity then to speak of....

We could not get attention....but now the teabaggers are getting it. Go figure.

9. The only qualm I have with this post . . .
. . . is that you spent even a moment of your time writing it, and wasted some perfectly good bandwidth on it (although it's nice to see those pictures).

These people are way beyond the fringe and well past the lunatic deep-end. They aren't worth any of our time.

18. But Beckerhead State University told Glenn Beck
that they used their special tools of right wing science and counted 1.7 gajillion people at his protest. So who are you gonna believe your own lying eyes or right wing science?
