Morrow police arrested Troy Dale West of Poulan after reviewing a video surveillance tape and talking to customers. He was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and cruelty to children.



A man beat an Army reservist in front of a Morrow Cracker Barrel, yelling racial slurs at her as he kicked her in the head, Morrow police said. The assault happened in front of the woman’s 7-year old daughter, who stood there, crying, witnesses told police.

The woman and her daughter were leaving the South Lake Plaza Drive restaurant last Wednesday about 7:30 p.m. as West was heading inside, Capt. James Callaway of the Morrow Police Department said.

The restaurant doorway nearly struck the woman’s daughter, prompting her to tell West, “Sir, you almost hit my daughter with the door, could you please be careful,” Callaway said.

West responded, telling the woman that she needed to watch her daughter and then began yelling racial slurs at her and kicking and punching her in the head, Callaway said.

Witnesses told police the woman kept telling West that she was an Army officer.

I'm not going to necessarily criticize people for not acting in the woman's defense.

I remember the Freeps attacking the Va Tech faculty and students for not charging into the hallway to take down the psycho that shot up the campus a few years back. In reality most of the arm-chair Rambos probably would have been pissing themselves if they had been on site themselves.

Simply, people have different responses to extreme situations. Some completely freeze up, some run away and others maintain their composure and are able to act to difuse the situation.

I don't know I would act if someone started violently beating someone a few feet away from me so I'm not about to judge the bystanders in this situation w/out knowing more information.

I would have started picking up stuff and throwing it at the bastard. even if it meant me having to tire him out as he chased after me.

I don't know who else was there, but I'm disappointed that no patrons attempted to intervene.

A few times over the years. I will give the other patrons the benefit of the doubt for not coming to here aid as this attack seems to have occurred in the entranceway between two sets of double doors. The people inside the restaurant probably had no idea of any disturbance, more or less a full-fledged assault taking place.
