ReThinking Norma Rae: A Union Icon Falls Fighting the Healthcare Industry

Crystal Lee Sutton, whose struggle to unionize a North Carolina textile mill became the inspiration for the 1979 film Norma Rae, died last Friday at the age of 68 after a long battle with brain cancer. Sally Field won the Oscar for best actress for her performance portraying a thinly-veiled version of Sutton. Watch my ReThink Review of Norma Rae here:

4. Levi has factories in Haiti.

Levi's was against now ousted President Aristide's proposed and popular increases in minimum wage from $1 a day to $2 a day. US backed overthrow (via the RW DR gov) ensued.

Wages stay at sub subsistence levels. Children literally eat cookies made of dirt. All is good for corporate globalism in Haiti. :puke:

A girl eats a mud cookie in Cite Soleil to stave off hunger.
The recipe on the ground is one part dirt, one part shortening
and half a cup of water. The recipe internationally is one part
charity, one part neo-liberal Reaganomics and one part dependence.
