ReThinking Norma Rae: A Union Icon Falls Fighting the Healthcare Industry

Crystal Lee Sutton, whose struggle to unionize a North Carolina textile mill became the inspiration for the 1979 film Norma Rae, died last Friday at the age of 68 after a long battle with brain cancer. Sally Field won the Oscar for best actress for her performance portraying a thinly-veiled version of Sutton. Watch my ReThink Review of Norma Rae here:

2. I heard it on local NPR station , ironcically just as I was passing yesterday

by the hospice where she was. I live near Yanceyville NC, just 20 miles from Burlington NC and was passing through on my way to dr.
Now all those jobs are gone here, the sobs that run the factories have moved jp stevens, levis jeans, wranger jean, dan river mills out of the country where they are now all are now factories employing mexicans and russians for pennies...

Levi's was against now ousted President Aristide's proposed and popular increases in minimum wage from $1 a day to $2 a day. US backed overthrow (via the RW DR gov) ensued.

Wages stay at sub subsistence levels. Children literally eat cookies made of dirt. All is good for corporate globalism in Haiti. :puke:
