Health insurance companies are raking in record profits and are raising rates by as much as 29% all over the country. The status quo is just fine for the Corporate (D)s and (R)s.

which means it's especially stupid that they pulled the public option out.

ditch the Baucus bill. pass a real one.

"We" were negotiating w/ Repukes in order to give away stuff to the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies. "We" knew from the start that Repukes would not vote for the bill -any bill. "We" needed the Repukes around, however, as a shadow sparring partner, as a convenient excuse for why "we" continue to give stuff away. "We" are actually competing wings of the Democratic Party vying with each other over who can be Big Insurance's and Big Pharma's biggest best friend forever.

That's not a nice thing to contemplate, but that's what all the evidence points to.

If the Progressive Caucus holds its ground and insists on a robust Public Option, and if the final bill does not promote a robust public option and the Progressive Caucus votes against it, I suspect the final bill will still pass with just enough Republican votes to get it through.

The health insurance industry really wants a Federal law on health care this year to preempt state action and prevent several states from enacting single-payer systems. The health insurance cabal doesn't care whether whether it's D or R arms they have to twist. They want the individual mandate and they want preemption. They do not want a robust public option, so that portion of the bill will likely get "triggered" away or replaced with co-ops.

Looks like it's the Democratic Party that gets to take the blame for giving the health insurance industry what it wants ... this time. It's tragic, really.

vote, and I bet they'd still vote against it. It probably only had connect-the-dots games in it, but still, they'd vote no on anything that would allow Obama to claim that HC was passed under his leadership, let alone within the first year.
