ACORN - and what it can teach us
Don't judge a whole group by the actions of some.

Whether it be home schooling (which I do), gun owners (I am not), people of faith (of which I am), etc and so on.

Not sure how some folks can complain others are painting ACORN with a broad brush and that they are getting "Fox News'd" and demonized by the right when I see the same tactics used here at times.

All it takes is a trip to google news and a keyword search to find someone from some group doing something bad.

And one can also take a trip there and find many others NOT doing something negative.

The actions of the few don't really say much but about the actions of those few. Guilt by association and stereotyping I don't really see as progressive ideals.

And if you want to say 'well it lays the framework' then I have two things to say about that. One is that you don't believe people have free will (and it reminds me of some one the right who say we are naturally born as 'sinners'), and Two is that there are some who will hijack a framework for their own reasons - and it might be a real good framework but it becomes the target instead of the individuals using it.

My body, My choice - it means you make choices over what you do with yourself and blaming a group if things go wrong with your choices is just a way to enforce your own bigotry against a group you don't always like.

And of course it goes without saying that blaming the philosophy or core beliefs of a group is not spot on, where we get into issues is when we map back to that group things which some in it do.

1. Acorn is an organization, not a group
Home schoolers, gun owners, or people of faith are groups only in the source that they share a single characteristic. Other than that, they have no relationship with one another.

Acorn is an organization with employees and volunteers that are attached to and associated with the organization.

4. You mean like peta, now, 700 club are organizations and not groups?
You can be both.

Like it or not, ACORN is painted as a LW group (or organization if you so like).

And how are gun owners a 'group' do they all fall under the same umbrella? And people of faith can fall into either category you wish (Salvation Army is an Organization).

The point is, why judge the many by the few?

A perfect example here is the Amish. Some can dredge up some really bad things about them, but overall not a bad group of people - but they get labeled as such because the few become the face of the many - whether it be good or bad and whether or not you are for or against them.

The lesson learned is that if you judge the whole by the few how much better/more advanced are you than others who do the same?

5. If an organization hires employees, then the organization is responsible for their conduct
Setting standards, supervising the staff, disciplining staff when necessary, and firing staff who do not measure up.
