Jenna Bush Hager on Today Show This Morning
Amateur hour. Most of the time she didn't even look at the camera. Tip to Jenna: it's the one with the red light. This was particularly bad at the end, when she talked straight to Matt Lauer and did not even acknowledge the audience.

Fortunately the story was worth watching because it was about an articulate little kid in TX by the name of Dalton. It was also a good story because it showed how a wise and talented teacher spotted this young man with a gift for public speaking. The teacher was acknowledged, which all too often never happens.

Jenna Bush unfortunately has those chipmunk-y features of her father: beady eyes, hawkish nose, turned down mouth. Everytime she spoke, I saw her father's face. Not something I wanted to see first thing in the morning.

They apparently are giving the little ditz no training or help whatsoever; the piece was that hokey.

It was also very "bouncy," what with Jenna frequently fist-bumping and high-fiving the kid, who had way more presence than she did. In fact, his composure is one of the things that made Jenna seem like such a beginner.

1. Thanks for watching so I didn't have to.
Wonder what favors were exchanged so kiddo could get her big break into TV stardom.

"And I'm a Bush."

4. Although I abhor her father, I find Jenna personable and thought she did well.
I also think she's an attractive young lady.

The piece she did was very good.

6. I honestly have no problems with her.
My father is a die hard conservative and I don't hold his political beliefs though if he ran for public office I would be torn from supporting him as a my Dad but not supporting his beliefs.
The only Bushes I have problems with were the ones in power...and Barbara Bush. She was ruthless.
I don't like the way she got the job for her name only but that was NBC's fault.

7. i can't help but wonder how many recent college graduates who may not have the
name recognition would be better for this job. I did not watch her, but I just don't get what's with the hiring people just because of who they are?? i think that at least luke russert probably had more qualifications for what they hired him for.... but come on.... jenna bush... really??!?

8. Hired only because of who she is
Although I agree that Jenna shouldn't be discriminated against because of who her father is, it is also impossible for me to believe that she got the job based on merit and not because of WHO she is.

I console myself by telling myself that Today probably settled for Jenna because Chelsea Clinton wouldn't consider taking the job!

12. That's because Chelsea already has a great job.
I hate going after the kids of politicians.

14. Absolutely - Chelsea is brilliant!
I was sarcastically commenting that the Today Show may have settled for 'second' best.

I don't think its admirable to go after the minor children of politicians, but once they hit adulthood, and then make the choice to be in the public eye, then they are fair game.

16. So you think the huge salary Chelsea got straight out of college
had nothing to do with her being a Clinton and would have been offered to everyone?

In 2003, Clinton joined the consulting firm McKinsey & Company in New York City; she was the youngest person hired in her class. In the fall of 2006, she left McKinsey and went to work for Avenue Capital Group, a hedge fund run by Marc Lasry, a donor to Democratic causes and supporter of the Clintons. She serves on the board of the School of American Ballet. She has also served as co-chairperson of a fund-raising week and for her father’s Clinton Foundation.

Face it, politicians' kids on both sides have perks you and I could only dream of.

I still stay away from people who had/have no effect on my life.

19. Certainly it had something to do with it
But she was also a Stanford graduate with a master's from Oxford.

21. From what I've seen of Chelsea,
Bill and Hillary did a damn good job of raising her. There has never been any negative press about Chelsea (i.e., no drunken stupors, etc.).

The few times that I've seen Chelsea speak publicly, she was very well-spoken, knowledgeable, showed finesse, grace, and was able to keep her cool when asked even very intimidating questions.

She graduated from Stanford and holds a master's degree in international relations. And while I'm sure that many politicians' children do indeed received special perks, to me, Jenna Bush getting on the Today Show is a little extreme.

17. The "N" in NBC stands for "nepotism"
I for one am waiting for the moment Luke Russert interviews Jenna Hager. The boys over at the Hadron supercollider might want to observe the moment a black hole swallows a network.

9. I think the Bushes have Kennedy Envy.
Now they're trying to package Jenna as the compassionate conservative Caroline.

10. You got it. It's all part of the rebranding of the gop.
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 09:27 AM by Wapsie B
Put Jenna out there on TV and she doesn't have to utter one political word. Her presence will serve as reinforcement to some that the gop is more than the images of Phyllis Schlafly and Jerry Falwell.

13. I'm glad I missed it.
Never, ever care to see or hear from anyone in that miserable disgusting family again. They have abused the United States for too long.

Enough is enough!

22. Not exactly: Ragging on the fact she looks like her dad
And that the OP didn't want a reminder of her dad in the morning.

(She can't help who she looks like, though.)

20. it's OK for the middle class to work for free
I work in the comm/media department of a university about 15" from Manhattan.

The networks are more than happy to take the students in our broadcasting and comm programs as interns. Unpaid.

As a university teacher, I see the work they do and many are way better than what I saw with Jenna Bush.

Yet Steve Bell, the producer for Today, extended an offer to Jenna Bush to do a monthly piece. She didn't even have to ask for the job--so pathetic and sniveling to the "power elite" is our media and in particular, the Today Show.

Today Show also employs another well known idiot, Kathie Lee Gifford.

Race to the bottom, indeed.
