Poor Sludgie thinks Jane Fonda will improve Pissypants approval rating
Just like he thought Kerry's botched joke would make the Democrats not win both houses in 06.

Poor Sludgie knows how Little Lord Pissypants feels to be irrelevant. America is so over these fucks.

1. When someone force feeds you food you don't like, you're gonna
vomit it out. That's what I see the USA doing since 11/7/06.

2. she won't help the jerk in the white house, but she might hurt the anti-war cause
Reality is that she is a controversal figure

Even Fonda appologized for participating in propaganda films for North Viet Nam.

There was critisim against Joan Baez for visiting North Viet Nam during the war, but she never participated in any propaganda films, and the animosity was never as strong as it was for Fonda.

People will do things against their own interest if they don't like the messenger. I know that sound insane, but remember the south essentially voted for bush in both elections, even though it was against their own interest

3. small group of diehards who would have their heads up their butts anyway
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 03:35 PM by frogcycle
she has apologized; she has stated she was young and naive; she has stated she was over her head; she has stated she didn't realize it would become a propaganda film (stupid, I agree, but who has not done something stupid?).

this is some 40 years later. people claim that pedophiles can be "rehabilitated", murderers get released when they have "paid their debt". gwb gets cut slack for evading the draft, for having been a drunk.

But "Hanoi Jane" remains a polarizing figure? Crap! Only the rabid dogs who WANT a polarizing figure will use her as an excuse, just like Kerry's botched joke.

8. tell that to most Viet Nam war vets, or any vet, Democrat or Republican
This is not the same thing as Kerry's botched joke.

13. I'm not saying her transgression was on a level with Kerry's flub
I am saying that clinging to it is toxic. I KNOW a lot of vets do so. I know some. I am saying it is pigheaded.

6. Jane Fonda is no longer a controversial figure.

let's move on. This anti-war is so powerful and organized, anyone who focusing on Jane is not seeing the big picture.

7. One of the things then
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 04:33 PM by Turbineguy
was the skill of Communists for spreading disinformation (much like the GOP now).

But she did not say anything yesterday that changed my mind about Bush.

15. She's 70 freaking 3, she won't be out on the anti-war circuit

doesn't matter if she is, she's a positive influence, along with any other celebrity who brings attention to the cause.

Go Jane!

4. She was Great, and so was the Huge Crowd Listening to Her
I thought Jane Fonda was wonderful as always, very thoughtful and compassionate, and I loved and was relieved that the huge crowd--I watched on C-SPAN--was so favorable to her, and did not boo or heckle her. I think this may help to heal some of the wounds inflicted by her North Vietnamese photos/statements, as she actually appeared, apologized, explained herself, and joined the fight against the newest Republican horror. I thought she was great, and welcome her back to the public fight for our country and its conscience.

11. Drudge imo is irrelevant, my neighbor who is a staunch republican
stopped reading Drudge after the false story about Kerry having a mistress, when you've lost my neighbor, you've lost your base.

12. Use her, Drudge
Hang your fedora on that hook for a while and see if it curries you any favour. I predict, not.

This time Jane is on the side of majority opinion. She's right in line with the thinking of %70 of the population. Her opposition is part of the collective.

She deliberately stayed away initially, because she did not want to detract from the anti- war message of people like Cindy Sheehan. Now, the message is being heard and assimilated by just about everyone but the neocons and sycophants like you, Mr. Drudge. Ms. Fonda's timing is spot on.

Go ahead, Matt. Pick on Jane. She can take it better than you and twice on Sundays.

14. shoot, her INTENTIONS were on the side of the majority back then
she just was incredibly stupid in her method

regardless of how badly it came across - siding with the enemy while they were killing our guys - it doesn't get much worse than that, I wholely agree - she did not INTEND to get more of our guys killed; she INTENDED in a misguided way to communicate a desire to stop the war.

She has regretted it ever since.

17. So. Let Me Get This Straight
Bush starts a war illegally with a nation that has done nothing to the U.S. He lied about WMDs. Tortured Iraqis. Poorly equipped the troops. Caused death and devastation to a country on a massive scale. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died. Three thousand American troops have died, and now there's a civil war afoot in Iraq which could de-stabilize the entire Middle East.

But, Jane Fonda speaks at an anti-war rally and because of that, the U.S. will rally around Bush and his Iraqi policy? If this is the best that the right can do, then they are finished.
