Ocean Springs bans dogs on Biloxi Bay bridge

OCEAN SPRINGS — The doggy bag dispenser on the Ocean Springs side of the Biloxi Bay Bridge will be removed and replaced with a “No Dogs” sign this week.

The ban comes after the city’s board of aldermen were told of a problem of more poop than scoop by people and their pets taking walks on the bridge.

City leaders say they are not sure how they will enforce the ban on Biloxi walkers and pets.

Officials are working on a creating a dog park for the city so animals can have a place to run and play with their owners.

A 2004 city ordinance requires pet owners to clean up after their animals.

Biloxi officials say they have not had any complaints about dog waste on the bridge.

The old one got destroyed by Katrina and this new one is very nice, with footpaths and artwork and it's also much wider and higher than the old drawbridge. A lot of people have been taking advantage of the footpath, trying to stay in shape. I would be pissed, too, if I were out there exercising and ran over some dog shit. A dog park sounds like a good idea. I hope Ocean Springs can find the money to build one.
