Nebraskans TO DISPLAY “BAND-AID” PETITION URGING Sen. ben nelson TO SUPPORT HEALTH REFORM NOW
Days before Sen. Ben Nelson votes on key committee, thousands have signed and written letters supporting public health insurance option

Omaha, NE – Surrounded by thousands of colorful, signed band-aids and handwritten letters, local Omahoan will call on Sen. Ben Nelson to support a public health insurance option on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10:00AM. The press conference is being organized by Working America and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

There will be excellent visuals.

“We are doing everything in our power to make sure that Sen. Ben Nelson knows that the people of Nebraska can no longer afford band-aid solutions to health care. We need real reform, including the choice of a public health insurance plan, and we need it now,” said Rev. Fredrick McCullough, who signed one of the thousands of colorful band-aids that will be on display at Hanscom Park.

AFSCME and Working America, the community organizing affiliate of the AFL-CIO, have been working together in key states to ensure that Congress passes a public health insurance option that competes with private insurance companies to lower costs and keep them honest. The band-aid display comes days before the US Senate Finance Committee considers its version of health care legislation. Sen. Ben Nelson holds the key vote on the committee.

WHO: Jared Ames (Working America), Rev. Fredrick McCullough, Steve Dawes (AFSCME).

WHAT: “Band-Aid” petition and letter display

WHEN: Saturday, September 19, 10:00AM
