CNN's Sanchez Slams Fox 'News': 'You Lie!'
Rick showing his balls of steel.

After slamming Fox by showing clips of CNN's extensive (some might say gratuitous, frankly) coverage, and even a clip showing Bill O'Reilly on Fox discussing the fact that CNN covered the event, Sanchez went for the jugular:

Here's the facts. We did cover the event. What we didn't do is promote the event.

Just like when thousands marched on Washington to protest the war in Iraq, we covered it as well. Probably less than we covered this event. But we didn't promote it. ... Bottom line is, we do cover the news, and we did extensively cover this event.

We didn't promote the event. That's not what real news organizations are supposed to do. We covered the event. I would invite you to look into that distinction, between those two words: "promote" and "cover".

"Cover" is kind of like a fair and balanced way of doing things. Ya get it? You might want to look into that.
...
Let me address the Fox News network now, perhaps the most current way that I can, by quoting someone who recently used a very pithy phrase. Two words. That's all I need. "You lie!"

5. I am seriously puzzled at the cachet Rick has gained here. Did he have a brain transplant?!1
His whole career has been a joke, well, after that little accident where he maimed (killed?) somebody while driving drunk.

I lost a file on him with many of his dumbass utterings and physical antics, from blanking out on arithmetic to getting tased and screaming.

Back when LIMBOsevic was pretending to date Daryn KAGAN, SNL ran this skit, KAGAN & Rick:

KAGAN: You're an idiot, Rick.

Rick: Well, you're dating Rush (LIMBOsevic).

KAGAN: That's private.

Rick: You've seen (LIMBOsevic) -------- NAYkid and you LIKE it!1

7. Rick worked his way up to tv anchor. He is also from humble beginnings.
I listen to his show while working out at the local Y and think he's fairly decent.

He is also fairly well informed on subjects he's talking about.

As for blanking out on math or the like... so what? He isn't reading from a script.

Elian episode. Has said the most DITZY, airheaded things on the air. I used to have a file of his absurdities, but lost it in a computer crash and Google hasn't been able to come up with most of the items again. He (used to be?) an industry joke. He has had his contract expire at MSRNC and CNN before, and somehow he keeps coming back from his local Florida base.

On Edit: I guess this will be a "Google Rick" day for me. For starters, his Wiki entry, which is oddly fawning except for these two paragraphs:

Sanchez is known for immersing himself into his stories. He has been submerged in water inside a car to explain how to best escape a sinking vehicle, been shocked by a "shock belt" to explain firsthand how overpowering the device could be when placed on prisoners, been subjected to waterboarding for a story about the controversial interrogation/torture technique, and been left atop a snow-covered mountain overnight to help explain what would be needed to survive the elements should one get stranded. His style has been parodied by Saturday Night Live (NBC) and The Daily Show. ....

DUI
On December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium after Smuzinick darted into the road.<3> Smuzinick was paralyzed and eventually died in an assisted living facility in 1995.<3><4> Sanchez, who had just left an NFL football game with his father (and left the scene of the accident), was not charged with causing the accident, but was charged with and pleaded no contest to DUI.<3>

6. Rick Sanchez is the best!
His show on CNN is about all I tune in for. I could do without much of the twittering and facebooking, but I know that's what his show is. What I really like is that he doesn't back down from assh*le guests and he isn't afraid of calling a spade a spade. I don't always agree with his statements, but I always admire his passion and his quick wit.

His fellow anchors on CNN could learn a great deal from Rick Sanchez. Rick Sanchez is the best!
