He is also the father of Neo-Con commentator William Kristol. One of the interesting factoids in his New York Times obituary was that one of the European magazines he founded was later exposed as having been funded by the CIA.

Political Writer Irving Kristol Dead at 89

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Irving Kristol, the writer, editor and publisher known as the godfather of neoconservatism whose youthful radicalism evolved into a historic rejection of communism, liberalism and the counterculture, died Friday. He was 89.

''His wisdom, wit, good humor and generosity of spirit made him a friend and mentor to several generations of thinkers and public servants,'' said the editors of The Weekly Standard in announcing Kristol's death on its Web site. He died of complications from lung cancer.

Kristol was the husband of critic-historian Gertrude Himmelfarb and father of neoconservative editor and commentator William Kristol, an editor of The Weekly Standard.

A Trotskyist in the 1930s, Kristol would soon sour on socialism, break from liberalism after the rise of the New Left in the 1960s and in the 1970s commit the unthinkable -- support the Republican Party, once as ''foreign to me as attending a Catholic Mass.''

The only better death news that I could conceive of would be my uncle, my mother's only remaining sibling, who was always nasty to me from the time we first met, when I was four. (perhaps because I was my mother's third child which meant less inheritance for him and his offspring, cause Lord knows, I never did anything to him to deserve it. On the contrary, I did everything I could think of to gain his friendship.)

You'd have to know my family, every one a republican, Fox watching, Rush Loving piece of greedy crap. My grandfather died in 1970 owning well over a thousand acres of land, much of it commercial, which would be worth 10's of millions today. He had his banker draw up his will and trust, which I don't think he even read,much less had looked over by an independent attorney.He considered his banker one of his best friends,. Can anyone who started with nothing, became worth so much, be such a fool even back then?

One of the will's clauses said in paraphrase, any heir who questions the management of this trust by Third National Bank (now a part of Suntrust) will be barred from the will. Can you believe it! So the first thing they did was sell or auction all of the land and commercial property to friends of the bank and relatives. Examples:
land auctioned for as little as $20 an acre, A motel, restaurant, and a string of storefronts including grocery store (all connected and it excellent shape) for $55,000. Then they bought and sold stock, mainly their own, and mostly at a loss, but taking their 20% commission on every transaction. There is now approximately $120,000 in the trust fund. To be split among 12 grandchildren at the death of the last sibling (there were four: My Mom who died 2 years ago, an aunt who died before my grandfather's death, an aunt who died about a year ago and my uncle) The income from the estate is paid monthly to each sibling,their share divide among the children upon their death and the estate liquidated and divided equally among the 12 grandchildren the death of the last sibling.


Except, my uncle got two farms up front, when the will was read plus his share of income all along, like the others, except the two children of my aunt who died before my grandfather died, started receiving their share of the income from the start, before the bank had stolen everything.

I am highly educated but after trying corporate life and hating it, I decided you're gonna make someone else rich either by destroying your mind or destroying your body.
I decided I'd rather keep my mind and worked almost 25 years as a subcontract floorcoverer (carpet,wood,ceramic, sheet vinyl (linoleum), vinyl tile, in fact anything that went on a flat surface. Half of the time you have no work,after buying, maintaining and keeping on the road (gas and oil) a truck, buying my own tools and supplies, insurance and paying my own helpers I got shit except a destroyed spine which put me on SSI Disability which after they found out about and stole my
$56 and change from the estate, I live on $628/mo

Was married and divorced four times. I didn't make enough money and they thought they could do better. The only partial exception was wife #2. Our son was laid down for a nap at 22 months old and didn't wake up. Sometimes that pulls you closer together and sometimes farther apart. We had money trouble too.

The uncle got filthy rich selling one farm and owning and living on the other for free, the two cousins who got cash early did extremely well, the rest all went the corporate route, got extremely wealthy and a mind full of republican garbage.

The only really loving family I've ever had was my hippie artificial family, Rainbow Family Bird Clan Commune, The Farm (often called incorrectly Gaskin's Farm, He's a good dude who still lives there But, it's not HIS farm. His wife Ina May did quite well with midwifery (Stephen married me to my second wife, Ina May delivered my second son and publishes The Birth Gazette, the main trade Mag of Midwifery) I also was a collective member of The Carnival Cafe Collective for a couple of years before it closed in 1977. My only real family was when with the above. Now DU is my family.

Sure, It would be nice if my uncle went ahead and croaked (Social Security will let me keep it if I can spend it in the first month)

But, Irving Crystal caused a lot of death and destruction in his life.
