The anti abortion movement is the biggest ruse in American history
Some people who publicly oppose abortion use this issue to meet their political objectives.

They use the emotion and morality associated with this issue to be self-righteous and achieve political power.

Bill O'Reilly is an excellent example of this. Being against abortion allows him to justify all the money he makes and tell poor people to fuck off.

Being against abortion allows Conservatives to get away with their economic and environmental policies without being held accountable on a moral basis.

The fact that they oppose health care reform is further evidence of this.

If you think about, if health care were more affordable it would probably lead to fewer abortions.

If a pregnant woman has knowledge that her unborn child has Spina Bifida, she would be less likely to have an abortion if she knows this would not bankrupt her.

The fact that "pro life" Senator Tom Coburn has alleged that health care reform will result in disabled babies being aborted makes me immensely angry.

I wish people could figure this out.

2. I have been telling elderly (R) members of my extended family for years
that they have been hijacked by the corporate class to vote against their interests for years and that abortion will NEVER be illegal because that is the only means they have to get them to the polls every 2-4 years.

I recently added -- W had 6 years of (R) rule -- did he do anything to further your goal?

While they concede the W argument, it still falls on deaf ears.

In talking about the healthcare debate the other day, one 65+ female relative told me that the Democrats make more sense, and if it wasn't for abortion, she would vote for them.

I am not giving up, but I am getting tired. :(

13. Ask your realitive if she is willing to adopt one of the unwanted
kids from the age of 3-15 that are in the system, regardless of race? Their lives are precious too.

Give her the statistics of those children in the system and ask what has she done to help the unwanted children.

They never have an answer to the obvious results of what happens to the unwanted child.

3. Exactly, it's just a wedge issue......
It brings money and voters to the GOP, anyone who pays a little attention should know this by now.

8. Add "illegal immigration" and "gun rights" and the GOP need say no more when looking for rubes. nt

Actually, how could I forget their favorite boogeyman wedge, gay marriage. Thankfully, they have definitively lost on that one, yet they keep on pressing the rubes' buttons with it.

6. You wouldn't say that if you lived in Arizona, or any of the states where they are working to make
impossible. And if research is done one would realize birth control, as it is considered an abortafacient is also in their sights. Just the fact that they have made so many strides and the fact so many are willing to concede so many elements of anti- choice shows how effective this movement is.

10. Many anti-abortionists in the Rethug party still believe a three century old economic theory ...
... that the only true engine of economic growth is an ever-expanding population (Adam Smith).

Bush I let that little chestnut slip in a '92 debate with Clinton and Perot. Usually they keep their real motivation pretty well hidden.

If they can continue to intrude in peoples' lives because of a three century old (incorrect) economic theory, then we can bring back the guillotine. Seems only fair.

11. If they really cared about reducing abortions, they would vote for the party
that implements policy that actually reduces abortions. That's not what they are about, in spite of their self-righteous ranting. They are about controlling & oppressing women.
