Baby Formula aggressively & Illegally Marketed in Viet Nam, exclusive breast feed rate down to 17%
AP: Baby Formula Illegally Marketed Abroad
Investigation Finds Multinationals Aggressively Push Infant Formula in Vietnam Despite Laws To Promote Breastfeeding

(AP) Multinational companies in Vietnam sell baby formula so aggressively that they routinely stretch and sometimes break laws designed to promote breastfeeding, an AP investigation has found.

International guidelines and Vietnamese law recognize breast milk as superior to formula for an infant's health. Yet dozens of interviews with mothers, doctors, health officials and shopkeepers suggest that formula companies pay doctors to peddle their products, promote it for infants under age one and approach mothers and health care workers at health facilities - all of which are against the law.

The number of Vietnamese mothers who exclusively breast-feed in the first six months - the most crucial period - stands at just 17 percent, less than half what it was a decade ago, according to UNICEF.

The clinic also printed a Dutch Lady logo on registration forms for women who came for ultrasounds or prenatal check-ups, she said. In return, Hanh said, Dutch Lady provided lunch for about 50 staffers from smaller clinics around the province who came to the bigger clinic for training every three months.

1. My blood boils when I see this sort of propaganda going on.
These companies have no more soul than a cockroach...probably less.

All they care about are profits.

And increasing their market share.

The health of the child means nothing to them.

Damn them all to hell.

3. I looked for their name...
But I didn't spot it.

They are evil incarnate when it comes to baby formula and breaking the law.

I've been boycotting them (or trying to) since the 1960's.

Dirty dogs.

4. At least it's actual formula. In really poor countries they market evaporated milk like formula,
even though they know that using it that way is REALLY REALLY DANGEROUS. Nestle, as usual, is the worst offender, but they all do illegal shit like that.

BTW, those free samples and crappy diaper bags they hand out in US hospitals are also violations of the WHO code, as are all the coupons in those cheesy pregnancy and baby magazines that come for free when you're expecting.

6. Those Fiends!
Let them drink Agent Orange from their mother's breast milk!

What's a few hundred thousand deformed babies if we can reduce corporate bonuses?

A strong public sector married with an unregulated, corrupt private sector.
