5. It sounds to me like we are in Iraq because that's where Bin Laden
wanted us to be. I can't remember which one of the men they were interviewing said it, but the invasion of Iraq was more than Bin Laden had ever hoped for.

8. That's right.
That was the conclusion, pretty much. Bin Laden completely played us. But I was not satisfied with that conclusion. It's too simplistic. I'll watch the rest of the series, hoping they articulate the picture.

10. I didn't perceive
the conclusion to necessarily mean that Bin Laden played us, just that invading Iraq was just what he wanted/needed to keep Al Qaeda going and to recruit.

It's amazing and frustrating every time you hear it to see how close we were to getting Bin Laden with only 40 Delta Force troops in Tora Borah and then the resources were shifted towards Iraq.

Also, between Bin Laden's efforts to legitimize the use of nuclear weapons as part of Jihad and the strategy of draining US resources, I can't say I slept easily last night.

12. Had the same reaction regarding nukes.
And also regarding how close we came to get him in Tora Bora (according to the ex-CIA guy, at least). I hope they explore that more because I'm not sure I believe it was simply that higher-ups did not want to risk lives.

13. Yes, I'll watch the rest of the series, as well. This is more background
info than I have seen before regarding the current situation in the ME. You get so much piecemeal information, it's really enlightening to see it all in one place and helps me to understand how so many of these situation interrelate.

16. Did anybody see tonight's segment?
Pretty intense. Gave a good view of how it is from the perspective of the soldiers there.

In one segment this week they are going to interview Richard Perle. I could not believe it when I saw it, but I have to watch the segment before I decide what the deal is. I suppose they HAVE to present the opposite side not to be blamed of being partisan.

14. I saw a preview from
the Perle documentary. Luckily it's not him in front of a podium spouting neocon rhetoric for an hour, but Perle actually having to defend his actions and attempt at foreign policy.

I was a bit worried at first when I heard this but I http://www.pbs.org/weta/crossroads/about/show_the_case_for_war.html">checked and am now satisfied it won't be propoganda.

In London Perle talks to one of the few journalists who has interviewed Osama Bin Laden, Abdel Bari Atwan, editor of Arabic newspaper Al Quds. Atwan complains that US foreign policy has brought destruction to Iraq, and US invasion is the cause of current bloodshed and chaos in Iraq. Perle replies that chaos is caused by Jihadists and Iraqi insurgents, and if they ceased their attacks, Iraq could be successfully reconstructed.

Here is the video of Perle and Atwan discussing Iraq.

9. Amazing
I have been looking forward to this series for a while now and was impressed with last night's premiere. It was interesting and frightening to see the transition in the definition of "jihad."

Looks like I'll be getting in quite a few hours of TV this week.

What did everyone else think?

11. Apparently, Osama was heavily criticized
by his buddies after 9/11 for not having given the US enough of a warning and a chance to convert. Apparently, Bin Laden has done this over the last few years, to get as much support as possible for a new attack (some believe).
